Haaaaay Lil’ Luna readers!

You may recognize us on Kristyn’s cute site from these crazy 80′s party pictures but in case you don’t, let’s get reacquainted, shall we?

We are twin sisters Kelli & Kristi of Lolly Jane, an eclectic DIY blog where we share home improvement projects, furniture revamps, occasional building tutorials, holiday crafts and sometimes, a tasty recipe or two. We are lucky to live within a mile from Kristyn and have become great friends- we love this gal and are just happy to be a part of her fun Christmas in July series!

Let’s answer some questions first…

1 - What is your favorite holiday and why?

Both of us LOVE the 4th of July! Kelli spends it out of state in UT with her in laws while Kristi spends in it northern AZ with hers. Each of us love the smaller town parade, park activities and watching the fireworks snuggled up with our littles. It’s so magical to watch their little faces light up in excitement and reminds us of snuggling up with our siblings and parents.

2 – What is your favorite Christmas Tradition?

We have the best memories of our extended family party… starting with hot cocoa and enchiladas (that’s how we roll) we sang carols and each family (7 total) put on hilarious skits and we finished it off “‘Twas the Noche before Christmas,” read by our older brother in a spanish accent wearing a sombero. Always funny no matter how many years we hear it!

3 - What is your all-time favorite Christmas Movie?

Kelli’s is The Christmas Story- classic. Kristi’s is National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. Awe-some…. love that Clark Griswold!

4 – What has been the best present you’ve ever received and why?

Kristi’s was a surprise trip to HI with her hubby. Kelli’s best present was her cute December baby boy….. awww! You can’t beat that!

5 – Why do you blog?

We are constantly building/painting/crafting something in our homes or for friends and decided to journal it through our DIY blog. We started off as a boutique, selling vinyl lettering, but soon discovered we do so much more than just create boards with it. We’ve come a long way, have taught ourselves new techniques, refined our style and are constantly inspired by other women out there creating to make their homes beautiful and the haven it should be. We love the basics of blogging, which is to share what we know and hope to inspire someone else

Raise your hand if you love Pottery Barn as much as we do? Keep it raised if you love their outrageously high prices? Hmmm, no hands? We know- LOL! Us either! After browsing their cute Christmas catalog last year, we came across their pretty double-tiered glass hurricanes and instantly knew we could replicate the look for a fraction of the cost. And, we did:

Theirs came in around $144 and we created the same look for $29. Much better, right? Right!

To get started you’ll need just a few things…

4 glass pillar candle holders: 2 medium, 2 large
2 candles: one short, one tall
Double-sisded tape
Glue pen
Scissors
Bag of firm cranberries
2 pieces of card stock
1 sheet of tissue paper

To create the PB music sheet candles, we taped along the edges of the card stock, pressed the tissue paper onto it and printed. From there we trimmed the edges, {where the tape adhered to the cardstock.} We now had pretty music sheet tissue paper. Easy peasy.

We squeezed a thin bead of glue along the edge of both candles, placed the tissue paper along it, wrapped the candle, trimmed the edges with our X-ACTO precision scissors and heated the paper onto the candle with a blow dryer:

So pretty! Now to assemble the knock-off hurricanes:

Simpy fill 2 of them with pretty Christmas-y items, like pine cones from your tree or fresh, firm cranberries. Then just stack the empty pillar onto the filled one and add your music sheet candles.

Light and enjoy the ambiance of designer holiday decor for less!
