Diaper Holder Tutorial

It’s sad but they didn’t have sewing classes at Corona del Sol High School in Tempe, and because they didn’t I never learned those BASIC Sewing Skills. Since then I’ve been able to get a machine and learn some VERY basic stuff, but I haven’t really had the time to learn more (I still can’t read a pattern – don’t laugh). Fortunately, my sister, Kellyn, has invested more time and is now able to make so many ADORABLE things from scratch, and it’s mostly from
TRIAL & ERROR
.

She apparently has more patience than me cuz I’d rather just be taught how to do it, but I don’t think anyone is patient enough to TEACH me. ;)

Well, Kellyn was kind enough to do a tutorial on here for me.
What sisterly love, right? :)

Any way, I think I’ll just turn the time over to her…

This tutorial is for all my friends who’s machines are collecting dust. They’ve never touched their machine because they were never taught how to sew.
This Diaper holder is super easy, anyone can do it!

Materials and Preparation:

Sewing machine, thread and Fabric

Cut fabric as follows…

Sixteen, 4×4 squares for front and inside of Diaper holder

Two, 5”wide x 8”long for top pieces (fold piece in half, long ways)

Eight, 4×4 squares of flannel to add thickness and more color

Two, 2 ½” wide x 8” long of flannel to add into the top pieces

DIRECTIONS:

1. LAYERING:

Layer each of the squares to prepare for sewing.

Bottom layer will be the inside of your Diaper holder. Lay this face down.

Middle layer will be a flannel square.

Top layer will be the outside of your Diaper holder. Lay this face up.

*For the two long top pieces, insert the flannel fabric in between the fold.

2. LAYOUT:

Layout your squares in the order of how you want your finished Diaper holder to look.

3. SEWING:

Use the picture above to begin sewing the pieces together, one side at a time.
Match the back sides of A and B together and sew along the right side of A, leaving about a ¼ – ½” seam .

Then match the back sides of C and D together and sew along the right side of C.

Now match up the back sides of your newly sewn pieces so that A and C’s backs are touching and sew along the bottom of A+B to the top of C+D. Open up the seam allowance as you sew.

Now take the top piece and match it up to the back of A and B so that the folded part of the top piece is facing down. Sew along the edge about ½”.

Repeat these steps for the second side.

Now match up the back of each side and sew along to right, bottom and left edge, leaving the needle down and pivoting when you reach the corner.

Your case is complete!

All you need to do now is clip into the seam allowance at 1/2” intervals.

Wash and Enjoy!! This diaper case can fit 4-6 diapers or 2 with a wipey case. :)

Thanks, Kellyn!
How easy was that!!

Well, I wouldn’t be a good sister if I didn’t just brag for my sis a little bit. :)

Hi! I love your project!, and as a someone new to sewing AND an expectant Aunty of twin nieces, I wonder how would this "recipe" be adapted for twins? A pouch to include, say, 4 diapers and wipes? Thank you so much for sharing!
