Make a fun and festive treat for your 4th of July party with this Patriotic Pudding Cups recipe! Layers of smooth and creamy red, white, and blue pudding, topped with summertime Oreos. The kids love making these pudding cups as much as they love eating them!
Festive Patriotic Pudding Cups
I don’t know about you, but I’m always looking for cool and yummy desserts during the summertime.With that in mind, and with Fourth of July coming up, I thought it would be fun to make some Patriotic Pudding Cups. These bad boys turned out so good and were so fun to make. In fact, Lily helped me and had a blast mixing the pudding and adding all the food coloring. Her favorite part though is licking off the rubber spatula, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t catch her with her finger in the tub of COOL WHIP. LOL!!!
I love using COOL WHIP in my everyday desserts because it not only adds a yummy taste, but makes it a little lighter and fluffier. This dessert, for example is mostly pudding and Oreos, but by adding COOL WHIP and some fun food coloring, it turns it into a light, creamy, festive and fun dessert! You could use any colors, but we made these specifically for the 4th of July, so we used red, white, and blue food coloring as well as the summertime Oreos with blue filling!
How to Make Pudding Cups:
I am sure these Oreos are seasonal, so if you can think of other uses for Blue Oreos I would stock up on them now. I do the same thing with the Red Oreos that come out around Christmas time!
- Start by crushing your Oreos and spoon a few tablespoons into the bottom of your clear cups.
- Make the pudding for your bottom layer as directed on the box (you’re going to make each layer individually, instead of mixing all three boxes together), and add in the blue food coloring. *I like the gel food colors because they make the food a very vibrant color.* Once it is mixed well, pour into the cups over your layer of crushed Oreos.
- When making the middle layer, only mix in 1.5 cups milk and then add 2 cups of COOL WHIP Whipped Topping. I did this to make the middle layer more fluffy, and to make it a more white color than the off-white color of the White Chocolate pudding. Pour while middle layer on top of blue pudding.
- Continue on with the red layer, making it as directed on the box, and then pouring on top of the white layer.
- Sprinkle remaining crushed Oreos on top and refrigerate.
I was able to make 8 cups using this recipe, but it all depends on the size of cup you use. You can also make this without the Oreos. Depends on what you like. No matter what, it still looks yummy and festive!
Now you have a super fun and festive dessert to make for the Fourth of July! And the best part is that it’s really easy and spruces up your everyday pudding dessert! Lily LOVED this dessert and has already put in a request to make this again – haha!

Patriotic Pudding Cups Recipe
- 3 pkgs white chocolate pudding 3.3 oz each
- 5 1/2 c milk divided
- 1 pkg Oreos blue summertime kind
- food coloring
- 2 c cool whip
- Crush the Oreos and spoon a few tablespoons into the bottom of your clear cups.
- Make each layer of pudding one at a time, starting with your bottom layer. Mix the pudding with 3 c cold milk as instructed on the box, add blue food coloring, and pour into each cup.
- For the middle layer, mix 1 1/2 c milk and 2 c whipped topping with the pudding mix. (I did this to make the middle layer more fluffy as well as make it a more white color than the off-white color of the White Chocolate pudding.) Pour on top of blue pudding layer.
- Mix the last box of pudding as instructed on the box, add red food coloring, and pour on top of white layer.
- Sprinkle remaining Oreos on top of each pudding cup and refrigerate until ready to serve.
