Sand Pudding cups with a beach umbrella

Beach Treats!

We made this recipe awhile back for Sand Pudding Cups. It was inspired by the Dirt Cake Parfaits we made last year.

This time we used Golden Oreos and added an umbrella on top to make it look like the beach.

I love these Pudding Cups so much – I think your kids would love them too. In fact, you should make them and bring them to the beach – LOL!!

Making SAnd Cups

OREO. Begin by smashing up Oreos. I put mine in my food processor and blended until they were crumbs. Set aside.

PUDDING. Mix cream cheese, butter, and powdered sugar with mixer in a medium bowl. Fold in cool whip until well blended. In a separate bowl mix pudding mix and milk with a whisk. Once combined well, add pudding to cream cheese mixture.

LAYER + GARNISH. Place a few tablespoons of Oreo crumbs in your cup or small jar. Add some of the creamy mixture (I do this by adding the creamy mixture to a gallon bag and cutting off the corner so it goes in the jar more easily.) Bang down on a wash cloth on the table to get all bubbles out. Add a few more tablespoons of Oreo Crumbs. Top off with some more cream mixture and sprinkle on a few more crumbs. Top off with more crumbs and a drink umbrella.

SERVE. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Tips + Variations

Do not remove the cream filling from the Oreos

Add a couple of dark Oreos to the food processor to give a speckled sand look.

Vanilla wafers will work instead of golden Oreos

Not only can you have fun with the serving container, but you can also have fun with your toppings. As mentioned, I used a simple umbrella, but other fun toppings you could include:

  • Swedish fish
  • Gumballs aka beach ball ;o)
  • Edible sea shells
  • Teddy Grahams with
    • Gummy lifesaver
    • Fruit by the Foot towel

I love being able to see the layers of this dessert so I divided it into 8 oz plastic cups. This is a perfect size for individual servings. I think I was able to get 15 cups give or take a few depending on how full you make them.

  1. Hi there, I made this as a big 2x batch in a 13×9 dish, but it wouldn’t set and I ended up having to throw it out. 🙁 Do you think it was because I did a big batch instead of individual cups?

  2. confused about serving size. It says 4 at the top of the recipe, but you were able to get 15 servings in 8 oz. cups?? Using the same measurements? Thank you for your help…this would be a perfect idea.

    1. So it really depends on the size of the cups you use. You can use the 8 oz cups or you can use something bigger, which would yield fewer, larger servings. Just depends on how big you want to make the servings.

  3. 5 stars
The cream layer is delicious. I also loved the idea to use a sun bathing teddy graham. Fun summer treat!
