This is the BEST Spinach Artichoke Dip recipe, and the ultimate dip for any get together! Filled with spinach, artichoke hearts, cheese, and more – this dip is sooo cheesy and perfect for any gathering!
There’s a reason we make this dip for every party. It’s quick, simple and always gone in minutes making it our go-to appetizer. If you are a fan of dips, we also recommend checking out our Cheesy Bean Dip and Buffalo Chicken Dip.
spinach and Artichoke Dip: the go-to party dip!
We love appetizers at our house and love to make them for parties, get togethers and holidays!
We always spend New Year’s Eve putting together a ton of appetizer and dip recipes to enjoy that night, and I wanted to share one of our favorites with you today – Hot Spinach Artichoke Dip!
Ever since I can remember, artichoke dip has been one of my favorite appetizers, and it’s one we often get when we go out on hot dates. This cheesy dip has become one of our go-to’s, and we’ve even created a crock pot version!
This recipe is very simple, only requires a small handful of ingredients, and can be put together in just a few minutes. The most time consuming part is waiting for it to bake in the oven!
How to Make Spinach Artichoke Dip:
This dip takes MAYBE 5 minutes to mix all the ingredients together before baking in the oven – which is THE most important step.
MIX. To make the dip, stir Parmesan cheese, frozen spinach (thawed), and artichoke hearts together in a bowl.
BAKE. In a separate bowl, mix together sour cream, cream cheese, mayo, and garlic. Add to spinach mixture and mix everything until well combined. Pour into an 8×8 baking dish and bake for 25 minutes at 375°.
SERVE WARM. This baked spinach artichoke dip is definitely best warm, and we promise it won’t last very long – it’s that good! Add salt and pepper to taste.
Can you use CANNED spinach? You can definitely used canned spinach for this spinach dip recipe. Just make sure to drain it and squeeze out the excess liquid.
Can you use FRESH spinach? You can use fresh spinach too! Just chop up the spinach and throw it into the recipe. The spinach will cook down while the artichoke dip is baking in the oven.
PARTY PREP FAQ
Can spinach artichoke dip be made ahead of time? You can definitely make this dip ahead of time, and it’s something we do often. Just make the dip as instructed and place in your dish. Cover in the fridge for up to 24 hours before baking.
Can artichoke dip be made in the slow cooker? Yes! We have a recipe for Crock Pot Spinach Artichoke Dip as well.
Can you freeze this recipe? We DO NOT recommend freezing leftovers since mayonnaise and sour cream typically do not freeze well.
What to serve with spinach dip?
We typically serve tortilla chips with our artichoke dip, but there are other items that go great with it too. Some of those include:
- crackers
- veggies – cucumbers, carrots, celery, peppers
- bread slices or cubes (toasted crostini, slices of french bread, or baguette slices all work great!)
- Pita chips and other corn chips
- Grissini (cracker like bread sticks)

Possibly my favorite dip ever!!! And this looks so good! Pass me the chips, a bowl of this and I’m set 🙂
You can never beat a good spinach artichoke dip. Perfect for football-watching Sundays!
Does anyone know if I can make it the night before and cook the next day?
I made it the night before but I did not cook it I just put it in the refrigerator overnight. I cooked it the next day right before the party. It turned out just fine.
Can you make this ahead of time and leave in fridge?
Yes you van reheat it. I make it for lunches and snacks and reheat through the week. It’s amazing.
Amazing recipe! Best I’ve found yet! Can I reheat it twice?
Hello! Just wondering could you put this is a crock pot and cook it?
I haven’t done it that way, but I’m sure you could!! Maybe on low. Good luck and enjoy!! Thank you for stopping by!
Did u try it in a crockpot? How did it turn out?
I was wondering the same thing! I’m going to try it today 🙂
I have not done this specific recipe in the crock pot, but it should be ok. I would keep it on low.
I did tonight actually! It turned out fantastic! I tweaked it a little bit and didn’t use mayo. But I’m sure it would be wonderful with it! I did it on high for 2 hours and it was delicious! Fast and easy and I didn’t have to worry about keeping it warm!
Yay!! Makes me happy to hear that! Thanks so much for making it and for letting me know!
Does this dip freeze well if you make ahead?
I haven’t tried yet..anyone else have? I’m thinking it should be ok, but honestly not 100% positive. I’d love to know if you do freeze it.
Can you use canned spinach?
I made this and it is Such an amazing dip!!The key to a successful dip is to drain the spinach well. Put the pieces on a paper towel , roll it up and squeeeeeeze. This prevents a soggy, wet dip. This dip 11/10!
Yes…that’s the key!! Thanks Oscar!!
Fantastic recipe! My family LOVED this! Thank You So Much!
No, thank you so much for trying it! Glad it was a hit with everyone!
Can leftover dip be refrigerated and microwaved later?
Of course! 🙂 Enjoy! Let me know what you think!
I used one block of cream cheese, I bag of fresh Baby Spinach, and added 2T of Dijon Mustard- all else the same. Delicious!!!
Sounds wonderful! Thanks for sharing!
How many people will a single batch serve?
I couldn’t say a number, but it makes a good size bowl. It could feed a good size group, if you are serving as an appetizer.
Can you use canned spinach? Or fresh?
We’ve never tried canned spinach, but I’m sure it would work as well as fresh spinach. 😉
What type of Mayo should I use?
I just used regular mayo. I like Best Foods, but really any would work 🙂
Any would work. I just used regular mayo. I like Best Foods. Hope that helps!
When you say “mayo” are we talking real mayo or Miracle whip?
Sorry, mayonnaise 🙂
This dip was a hit! I made this for the first game of the 2017 football season. We enjoyed and I will be making again????
It’s perfect for parties!! I am glad you liked it! Thank you for letting me know!

Do you think it would be ok to make it in the oven and transfer to a crock pot on warm? I am bringing to a party, and I’d like for it to stay hot and I am not sure I want to make it in the crockpot, just to stay warm
For sure 🙂 It will be a hit! Have fun!

Made this a few days ago and it was so yummy! The family gobbled it up. I added a sprinkle of garlic powder too since I love garlic. This was so simple and tasty. Thank you.

If I use fresh spinach do I just need to cook it first?
I would 🙂
A great classic recipe for a dip that everyone seems to like, even people who think they don’t like spinach or artichokes. I made this early in the day and kept it in the fridge until an hour before serving. Then I brought it to room temperature and baked for the specified time. You just have to be sure to really squeeze the liquid out of the spinach and artichokes. Thanks for a great recipe!
Thank you so much!! And, yes, squeeze all that liquid out 🙂 I am so glad you liked it!!
I c for ur spinach artichoke dip, it says serve immediatly, Taking this to a potluck, it will sitting in shade for a hr. will it be ok to eat.
Yes, it should be ok 🙂
How many recipes of this would a party of 90 people require???
Oh, wow..I haven’t make this for that many. I would maybe triple or quadruple it. I mean..not everyone may want to have it or they may just take a scoop. You could always make more than needed & freeze leftovers. Hope it’s a hit!
Made this for a group gathering and it was delicious! I used fresh spinach that I cooked on the stove top and it turned out great.
Yay!! Love to hear that! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for the spinach artichoke dip recipe. It was one of my favorites 20 and 30 years ago, and I was wondering how much of the other ingredients I put in it. I used to very lightly blanch broccoli spears to use for eating the dip (always interested in health). Love your attitude!
Awe, thank you so much!! I am glad you found this recipe 🙂
I could eat this cold or warm!! It was so good!! We had tortilla chips on hand, but these would be great with crackers or bread. I can’t wait to make it again!
This is SO delicious I just want to eat it all by myself with a fork! Who needs chips or crackers? Yummmmm
Haha..go for it!! 🙂 I am so glad you liked it! Thank you!
Artichokes are not my favorite thing to handle. BUT I’ll do it again and again for a recipe this good! We love to eat the spinach dip at Charlestons and this one is just as great! And cheaper 🙂
This is a perfect appetizer to serve at a dinner party. I liked it best served with different types of bread. So warm and heavenly!!!

I’ve been making this exact recipe for so many years. It was passed down to me from family. Been a staple in the family forever! Love it so much. Wish the nutrition label said how much was in each servings. That’s how I came across this page was looking for nutrition on my recipe as I knew many have this same recipe cause it’s so yummy! Best dip ever.
It says 16 servings. Just divide you pan into 16 parts.
Has anyone eaten this cold or really just room temp? Im taking it to the park for a birthday party so i dont have a way of keeping it warm.

Great addition! I am so happy you tried it & liked it! Thank you!
I have to make this only when I am throwing a party, Otherwise I would eat it all myself! It is SO GOOD!
This is our favorite dip to make for parties/entertaining! Love it warm! It is easy to make & great with so many things!
I absolutely love this recipe! I’m always required to have it all gatherings we host and there is never any left over. We typically serve this with some sort of crusty bread, celery, and pita/tortilla chips. When I’m not hosting a party, I usually make some and snack on it and use left overs ontop of chicken. This is also keto friendly, which is important to some of my guests.
I love hearing this! It is definitely a crowd pleasing recipe. Thank you for sharing that!
Delicious
Glad you think so 🙂 Thank you!
So easy to make and so delicious! My sister had just ordered spinach artichoke dip at a national chain restaurant and even she said this recipe was much better. It is now part of our Thanksgiving menu today!

If using fresh spinach, still 10 oz? Thank you!
Yep!
Can you mix all ingredients and leave in fridge overnight and bake the next day?
You bet!!
The pin link is not working for me . So I made my own.
can i mix together and refrigerate several hours ahead of baking off?
can I mix ingredients and refrigerate several hours prior to baking off?
Yes, absolutely!! You can refrigerate up to 24 hours before baking.
Best one yet. Used Parmesan, Romano, Asiago mix
Sounds delicious!! So glad you enjoyed the dip!
How long can you keep leftovers?
It should last a couple of days leftover in the fridge. I’d suggest keeping it in an airtight container or covered with plastic wrap.
Can you do this recipe in the crockpot? Wanting to be able to keep it warm for several hours.
Yes! You definitely can. Make as directed by combining all the ingredients. Place in a greased slow cooker and heat on LOW for 3-4 hours or on HIGH for 2 hours.
Can I double this dip and bake in an oval deeper baking dish and should I increase the baking time?
