Variations

The few ingredients really come together well to create a delicious simple salad. With that said you can always add more flavors such as:

  • sliced red onions or green onions
  • poppy seeds
  • dried cranberries or raisins
  • Avocados
  • Grilled chicken
  • Walnuts or pecans
  • Bacon

Several different cheeses can be used in place of colby including feta cheese, cheddar cheese, or mozzarella.

If you’re not a fan of mayonnaise, you can use miracle whip or greek yogurt.

Ingredient Tips + Storage

Strawberries: Since strawberries don’t ripen once they have been picked, choose strawberries that have minimal to no white tops. They should be fragrant, but firm.

Broccoli: Fresh, not frozen, broccoli is a must. It’s also raw broccoli. If you really do not like raw broccoli, you can blanch it.

  • To blanch: Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add the broccoli florets to the water and blanche for ONLY 1-2 minutes. Remove the florets from the pot and immediately place them into COLD water. Drain dry and use in the salad.

This makes a great make ahead salad as it will store covered in the fridge for 1-2 days before serving.

STORE leftovers depending on how far in advance the salad was made. The leftovers can be stored in the fridge for a total of 4-5 days.

I love the combo of the strawberries and broccoli! The dressing pairs perfectly with this salad too. The crunchy broccoli with the soft cheese is amazing too.
