Reversible Baby Boy Ties Tutorial

This is my little man, Gav, with his tie. I absolutely LOVE it when little boys come to church all dressed up!
I think it makes them look so stinkin’ handsome and CUTE. When I found out I was having a boy, I knew I wanted to make some ties for him cuz I knew it was one of the few things you could do to “doll” up your boy. So, that’s what I did. Today, I am going to show you how I make these with this Reversible Baby Boy Ties Tutorial.

1. Begin by washing all fabric and ironing if needed. After printing and cutting out the tie template, trace the tie onto the home dec fabric and matching corduroy.

2. Cut out the fabric pieces.

3. Thread sewing machine with matching color thread. I usually do two different colors. For this one, I did off white thread on top and blue on bottom.

4. Make sure elastic is a little over 11 inches long. Put fabric pieces together and add one side of elastic to the top and insert in between fabric about 1/2 inch. Start sewing a straight stitch and be sure to back stitch over the elastic.

5. Continue sewing in a straight line, and turn when you come to the corners. When you get back to the top, insert the other end of the elastic about 1/2 inch and sew (be sure to back stitch again over the elastic). Continue all the way until where you started and back stitch.

6. Now go through and cut off all the areas of the tie where the overlap isn’t just right. Finish it off by Fray Checking if desired. The tie will fray on the edges over time, but it still looks soo cute frayed.

This is the most simple, easy tie anyone could make, and it’s great cuz it’s REVERSIBLE!! Not to mention, it is also the best boy accessory out there!

  1. That is so stinkin cute!!! I love it! I am not ready for anymore kids, but man this makes me want a boy to dress up all preppy. Great job and what an easy tutorial! Thank you for linking up!

  2. easiest baby boy tie I have EVER seen…. thank you for making a tutorial for something I could actually make!!! 🙂 My toddler LOVES wearing ties and even though yours are for babies, I think I'll make slightly larger ones for him.

  3. Love your site. Googled along time to find this tutorial. 🙂 Thanks for sharing!Question- have you made with regular fabric? I can see the other stuff is stiffer.. just wondering if I should attempt it. So much easier to match my girls outfits to regular fabric, you know?!Thanks!

    1. Hi Amber! So glad you like the ties. Unfortunately, I do not sell them. I just showed you how to do them yourself. They are so easy. You should give them a try PLUS they’re only like .50/tie to make! 🙂

  4. Love This!! Been wanting to Make a tie or two for my lil man that arrives in 4 weeks! Thank you so much for the tutorial!! BTW, you kiddos are adorable!!
