Twice the Chocolate

This double chocolate hot cocoa recipe is one of my favs, and has special meaning!

It’s a recipe my mom made up for my wedding years ago. All we did was serve hot cocoa and desserts as well as had a chocolate fountain at the reception, and I’ll be the first to admit we put most attendees in a sugar coma.

The Double Chocolate Hot Cocoa Recipe added to the coma. It is filled with so much goodness and is very easy to make. I still have people come up to me after all these years and tell me how much they loved the Hot Cocoa at my reception. Funny, huh? Probably because it’s made up of White chocolate chips, chocolate milk and heavy whipping cream!!! It is seriously soooo good!!

Just mix & heat!

Crockpot Directions: Pour all ingredients into a crock pot on HIGH for 3-4 hours {until chips are melted and drink is warm}. Serve immediately.

Stovetop Directions: Make this on low on the stovetop to avoid the chocolate from burning. Keep an eye on it and consistently stir it to prevent it from boiling. You don’t want the milk to scald and the chocolate to burn.

Tips & Variations

Choose your personal favorite brand of chocolate milk. We like shamrock, nesquik, and sometimes store brands are even great!

We really prefer Ghirardelli chocolate chips for all of our recipes!

Variations/Additions:

  • Add a splash of vanilla extra
  • Chopped peppermint candies
  • Marshmallows or marshmallow cream
  • Make it less sweet by using bittersweet or dark chocolate chips
  • Drizzle some caramel sauce in

Storing Tips

STORE the leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat it on the stove or in the crockpot until warmed. Do not let it boil! Stop the warming process when it’s steaming.

FREEZE any leftover hot chocolate in ice cube trays. Then you can pop a few cubes, and extra milk in a mug and microwave it. Try using it within 1 month of freezing, but it should be good for 6 months.
