Ingredients

Brownie Base

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure orange extract
  • 1 teaspoon grated orange zest
  • 1 ½ cups all purpose flour

Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest

Instructions

Brownie Base

  • Grease a 9x13 pan (optional: line with parchment paper). Preheat the oven to 350°F
  • Add the butter and sugar to a medium bowl and mix until they are creamed together.
  • Mix in the salt, eggs, orange extract and orange zest. Stir until just combined.
  • Add the flour and stir until ingredients are combined and smooth.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for 25-30 minutes.

Glaze

  • Begin by sifting the powdered sugar into a small bowl to make sure it is smooth and free of any clumps.
  • Add the orange juice and orange zest, then mix until the glaze is smooth.
  • Once the brownies have cooled you can pour the glaze over the top. Wait a few minutes for the glaze to set before cutting.

Notes

Recipe Tips.
  • No orange extract on hand? Use extra zest or a little frozen orange juice concentrate for a flavor boost.
  • You can buy a citrus zester or use the small section on a box cheese grater. See how to zest citrus for tips.
  • Just like with classic fudge brownies, let them cool just a bit and use a plastic knife to cut even, clean slices.

Store, covered, at room temperature for 2 to 3 days, in the fridge for up to a week, or wrap with plastic and place in a Ziploc bag and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw and serve chilled or at room temperature.
