Course: Side Dish
Cuisine: American
Servings: 6
- 1 teaspoon steak seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- 4 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into ¼" sticks
- 1/4 cup olive oil or coconut oil
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- sea salt flakes, optional
Preheat oven to 450°F. Line a baking sheet with foil, lightly grease with cooking spray and set aside.
In a small bowl, mix steak seasoning, pepper, garlic powder, salt, and paprika.
Add sweet potato slices to a large bowl. Drizzle the oil over the slices and toss to coat. Sprinkle the seasonings over the slices and toss to coat.
Add the sweet potato slices to the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes, then flip and bake for 10 more minutes or until crisp. Broil on LOW for a few extra minutes to help crisp up the potatoes.
Recipe tips.
- Don't skip the soak. The 1-hour salt soak helps draw out excess starch from the potatoes, which is key for crispiness.
- Maintain the ¼-inch stick size for even cooking. Consistency is key for an even bake!
- Eat them plain or with a dipping sauce. I like classic ketchup, Ranch Dressing, or Fry Sauce.
- Air Fry. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F and lightly spray the basket with oil. Place the fries in the basket in a single layer. Fry for 8 minutes, flipping them halfway.
Prep ahead freezer fries.
- Blanch. Peel, cut, and soak the sweet potatoes. Bring a pot of water to a boil, add the cut sweet potatoes, and boil for 2 minutes. Drain and immediately put fries into a bowl of ice water for 3-5 minutes. Drain, pat dry, and toss with the cornstarch and spices.
- Flash Freeze. Place fries in a single layer on a cookie sheet. Put them in the freezer until they begin to harden, 1-2 hours. Remove and place in an airtight freezer-safe container for 3-6 months.
- To Heat: Preheat oven to 450°F and bake the frozen fries for 25-30 minutes, tossing halfway through.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 4-5 days. Reheat in the oven at 400°F for 5-8 minutes or until hot.
