Backyard Makeover

I’ve blogged several times about our home. We bought it just about two years ago and although it needed LOTS of work, we immediately fell in love. We have spent the last two years fixing up the house and making it our home, and although we are moving in the next few weeks we are grateful for all the home improvements we have done and look forward to doing the same thing at our next home.

One of the first things the hubby started working on when we moved in was the yard. We focused on the front yard first since that’s what people see more often and took out the gravel and planted grass. We also put in some stone and planters and it made a world of difference. We knew we wanted to do the same thing to the backyard but the backyard was super icky and knew it would take more work. Fortunately, we didn’t give up and over a two year process, we were able to turn to the backyard into a place the whole family loved! Let me just show you a little before and after….

Backyard Makeover - such a huge transformation!

World of a difference, right?!

I sure think so!

Although we spent very little time out there the first year as we started to make it over, we’ve made up for good time and have spent almost every day out there this past year working on the lawn and playing in the grass, which was the first thing we added back there.

WHAT WE DID:

- Ripped out old landscape and removed all rock

- Installed new sprinkler system for grass

- Re-seeded old grass and laid 700 sq. ft of new grass

- Installed 600 sq. ft of pavers

- Planted new trees, plants, flowers

- Installed new Drip System

SUPPLIES {ALL FOUND AT LOWE’S}:

- We had all the supplies for the rip out but used: Shovel, Wheel Barrow and LOTS of sweat

- PVC Piping, Fittings, Nozels and Sprinkler Heads, Sprinkler Timer for new Sprinkler Zones

- Grass seed, fertilizer, and rolls of grass

- Pavers, sand for leveling, a Rented Plate Compactor, more sand for the joints in the pavers

- Trees, plants, flowers, trellace and mulch

- Tubing, Nozels and connectors for Drip System

Not too pretty!

Although, I won’t go into depth on how to do every little change we made in the backyard I wanted to show you how a little work, money and vision could make  a world of difference!

Lorin put in these pavers all on his own. It took a TON of time to hammer them in one by one, but it’s been our favorite place to hang out and the kids LOVE riding their bikes on there. It was also nice to enjoy during the cooler weather when we could roast marshmallows and drink hot cocoa as a family.

My husband is a firm believer that adding plants, shrubs and trees can also make a huge difference. He’s definitely converting me to this belief and with ever little thing planted it helped the backyard look more complete. He installed a  drip system for these plants which makes it so nice in not having to water them by hand each day.

Although I tried to help where I could, the hubby did most of the work for this yard, and I’m so grateful that he was willing to do it. I’m sad we only finished it this past month and won’t have too much time to really enjoy it, but I know the new owners will LOVE it!

SO, I want to know – what do you think of the transformation?

ENJOY!
