Halloween Hot Cocoa Kids Love!
This Halloween Hot Chocolate is so simple, but it makes for a fun and festive drink to sip on during a cold October night.
You can dress it up as much or as little as you like and serve it at a Halloween party or celebration. The recipe is just a basic white chocolate hot cocoa (made with just milk and white chocolate chips!) with the addition of green food coloring and some spooky treats added to it.
We used gummy worms and witches hats. It was a big hit with our kiddos!
For that sweet celebration, pair this Halloween hot cocoa with Gummy Worm Jello Cups and Melted Witch Bark!! Witch’s Brew also makes a great addition to the fun.
Why we think you’ll love it:
- Fun and Festive. It’s great for any Halloween party and adds another level of fun more than serving water or soda.
- So easy. Made in minutes with minimal effort. WIN!
- Delicious. It’s not only festive, but is delicious and loved by kids and adults.
Halloween Hot Chocolate Ingredients
- 4 cups milk – For a creamier chocolate use whole milk, or add heavy cream or half and half. Non-dairy milk can also be used for a healthier alternative
- 1 cup white chocolate chips – For more of a chocolate flavor you can use more white chocolate chips, or consider using milk or dark chocolate (depending on your preferences), or use green candy melts.
- green food coloring
- vanilla, optional – Add a splash of vanilla or peppermint for extra flavor
- Toppings: whipped cream, Halloween sprinkles, etc.
How to Make Halloween Hot Chocolate
- MILK. Heat milk and chips on low-medium heat in a small pot on stove.
- CHOCOLATE. Whisk and heat until chips are melted.
- GARNISH. Remove from heat and stir in food coloring and vanilla, if desired. Add marshmallows and gummy worms for garnish.
Kristyn’s Recipe Tips
- Crock Pot Instructions: Heat up the milk in the microwave and add all the ingredients to the slow cooker. Cook on low for 5-6 hours or on high for 3-4 hours. Stir the hot chocolate every so often to make sure the chocolate doesn’t gather at the bottom.
- Also, chopped white chocolate candy bar instead of white chocolate chips works better if doing the slow cooker version.
- Keep it warm: A slow cooker is also a great way to keep the chocolate warm during a party. Set the pot to the โwarmโ setting. Stir every so often.
- Best Candies: gummy worms are always the hit to serve with this drink (as well as all gummy bugs, candies, etc). Just be sure to add right before serving so they don’t melt in the drink.
- Make it more festive: Add ghost faces on the side of the marshmallows or line the rim with sprinkles.
To make these fun witch straws, just cut two circles out of black paper of whatever size you are looking for (mine were about 1.5 inch circles). Cut one circle halfway through, then twist to form a cone. Before gluing in place, bunch a hole in the middle that is wide enough for the straw to go through. Hole punch the middle of the other circle. Glue the cone piece on top of the other other circle and push through the straw.
