This next project is one that I’ve been wanting to make for the past year. I finally got my act together and decided to make it.
About a year and a half ago I found some super cute bedding for Gav’s bed… it’s monster theme. Gavin is my little monster so I thought the bedding was fitting and would be a perfect theme for a little boy’s room. Well, fast forward a few months and we found him a cute and affordable bed at Big Lots but it had no headboard, and that’s what I wanted to make. I knew I could whip up a cute and inexpensive headboard to match his bedding.

Here is how you can make this Monster Headboard Tutorial as well:
SUPPLIES:
– Three 1 ft. x 2 ft. wood pieces (I get my wood at Home Depot or Lowe’s – it sells in 1 ft. x 4 ft. pieces for about $7 and we cut it in half)
– Spray Paint (two colors – one for underneath color, one for top color)
– Vinyl
– Silhouette
– Spray Polyurethane
– Sand Paper
– Xacto Knife
DIRECTIONS:
1. Begin by spray painting your boards the color you want your monster to be. I did mine white. Do another layer if needed. Let dry completely.
2. I designed my monster with the Silhouette. I bought the dingbat (DB Monsterlicious) from scrapnfont.com and used one of the monsters from it for my board. I was just sure to put in three parts so it could fit. Cut and peel your vinyl.
{And remember, your headboard doesn’t have to be a monster – it can be any fun image!!}
3. Add your vinyl to your boards in the three pieces. Make sure it is on well and then spray paint the top color. Do another coat if needed. Let dry completely.
4. Peel off the vinyl with an Xacto knife. Add a layer of Spray Polyurethane to seal the paint and give it a nice finish. Let dry completely.
5. Add teeth to the back of your boards to hang.
Hang and enjoy!!
I LOVE how it turned out. It seriously took me under two hours to make, and it adds the perfect touch to his bed and room.
