Gotta Love Chocolate!

If you’ve never made a chocolate syrup recipe, now is your chance!

It’s SO easy to make at home. I always have some homemade chocolate syrup recipe in the fridge for sundaes, cakes, pies, and more!

Here’s why we LOVE it:

  • So easy! Just 5 ingredients and 10 minutes is all you need to make it.
  • Decadent. This recipe is 100% better than any store-bought alternative found at the grocery store.
  • For desserts and more. This amazing chocolate syrup is just the perfect consistency for desserts or pancakes!
Adding cocoa powder to melted butter in a saucepan.

Simple Ingredients!

  • granulated sugar
  • unsweetened cocoa powder – Any plain unsweetened chocolate baking powder will work. Cacao powder and cocoa powder can be used interchangeably. You can also use Dutch process cocoa.
  • cold water
  • butter
  • vanilla

How to Make Chocolate Syrup

  1. PREP. Whisk together the sugar and cocoa in a medium pot until all lumps are gone.
  2. BOIL. Add water and butter and turn to medium heat. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly for about 1 minute.
  3. COOL. Remove from heat and add vanilla once the mixture is cooled. Stir until combined, place in a glass jar, and refrigerate. Reheat when ready to serve.

Quick Note:

The chocolate sauce will seem too thin, but it will thicken as it cools.

Storing

STORE the homemade chocolate syrup in an airtight container (like a mason jar) in the refrigerator for 3-4 weeks.

    Considering making this in 2022.
You mean to tell me: CHOCOLATE MILK CAN BE MADE WITH A BUTTERY CHOCOLATE SYRUP?
Do you taste the butter within, though?
    Thanks for reading.

    1. Lil'Luna Team says:

You bet. You can mix the chocolate syrup with some milk (just as you would with Hershey’s syrup) but it tastes even better since it’s homemade! ๐Ÿ˜‰ And nope, once the ingredients boil together, it doesn’t have a strong butter flavor. It’s so yummy!!

  3. Cindy cella says:

I added vanilla before cooling, is that a bad thing?

    1. LilLunaTeam says:

It helps to add the vanilla after cooling because the taste will remain stronger than if you add it before it cools. Vanilla has alcohol in it so it evaporates when it is heated and loses some of its taste. It shouldn’t be overly noticeable though. I hope it turned out for you! Thanks for trying it!

What is the purpose of adding butter?

    1. Kristyn Merkley says:

It makes it nice & smooth ๐Ÿ™‚

Woah this was so good! I made an iced coffee at home and added a teaspoon of this chocolate into it and it was incredible. I still have some leftover in a jar, I am defiantly taking your idea and putting it on pancakes in the morning.
