Mason Jar Salt and Pepper Shakers

Mason Jar Salt and Pepper Shakers tutorial - a great gift idea! All you need is some paint, vinyl S & P letters, scrapbook circles, jars, mod podge, sandpaper, and paint supplies.

Hello! I am Landee from Landeelu.com and I’m so happy to be here on Lil’ Luna today!

Christmas can be a very expensive time of year. It’s hard to find gifts for everyone you love & appreciate and still stay within your budget! Today I am sharing a fun little gift that you could make & give that anyone would love and it won’t break the bank! Plus, everyone knows that a homemade gift means you love them the most, right? Right. 🙂

You can make a set for about $5-$6… and they would be easy to make a bunch all at once!

Want to make some? Here is what you’ll need.

  • 2 6oz mason jars and lids (I found mine for $1.99 each at Hobby Lobby)
  • “S” and “P” letter stickers or vinyl letters
  • 2″ circles of scrapbook paper (I used a 2″ punch)
  • Mod Podge
  • paint (I used chalk paint because I had some around but regular acrylic craft paint would work too!)
  • foam paint brush
  • hammer & nail
  • rough sand paper
  • painter’s tape or masking tape

STEP ONE: Tape off top of jar and apply letter stickers. Paint over entire jars with paint. I applied two coats of paint, allowing them to dry completely between coats.

STEP TWO: Remove letter stickers and painter’s tape and distress jars (if desired) with rough sandpaper. If you’re worried about the paint chipping off more later, you can spray jars with a protective clear coat to seal them. Be careful not to get any spray on the inside of the jars where your salt & pepper will be.

STEP THREE: Mod Podge the 2″ circle of scrapbook paper onto top of lid and allow to dry completely.

STEP FIVE: Fill jars with salt and pepper, put the lids back on and you’re done!

I think these would be so cute in any color you would like! You can also embellish them by wrapping jute or baker’s twine around the lids or anything else you can dream up! Personalize them a little for each person you give a set to… they will love it!

I LOVE this and we need new salt and pepper shakers. Now, I don’t need to go out to the store and get some. Perfect way to use those lids, since you can’t reuse them once you canned with them. 🙂 This is perfect.
