Homemade Pizza Seasoning – it’s easy!
Did you know you can make your own pizza seasoning at home?
It’s so handy to have whenever you’re in the mood to have a pizza night – one of our favorite dinner recipes!
Fortunately, you just need a few ingredients and most are probably sitting in your pantry or cabinets now.
Is pizza seasoning the same as Italian seasoning?
Italian seasoning is usually a mix of dried oregano, basil thyme and rosemary. Pizza seasoning usually has the extra ingredients that everyone loves with their pizza, like onions, garlic, fennel and more.
Pizza Seasoning Ingredients
You don’t need much- just a few ingredients! So dig around in you spice drawer/cabinet and look for the following herbs and seasonings:
- oregano
- basil
- dried onion flakes
- garlic powder
- thyme
- fennel
- paprika
- ground black pepper
If you don’t have any of those- pick them up during your next grocery trip. You’ll be SO happy you prepared this homemade pizza seasoning in advance.
This also makes a cute gift idea. Package it in a cute little glass container and give it to someone with a jar of pizza sauce or a recipe for pizza crust!
How to Store Pizza Seasoning
You’ll want to store your homemade pizza seasoning sealed in a tight container. Make sure you use herbs and spices that are not close to being expired. This will keep your pizza seasoning last longer on your shelf.
If you’re giving this to someone as a gift- make sure to write the expiration date on it so they know!

When do you put on the seasonings? …
I liked it but I’ll probably leave out the fennel next time. The anise/licorice flavor on my pizza was odd.
Thanks for the feedback and for giving the seasoning a try!
I’ll be making this come Fall. I grow, dry and grind my own own herbs and onions
Sounds amazing! I’m sure the seasoning will be especially good with fresh herbs!
Hi Kristyn,
I can certainly understand how your pizza seasoning got 5 stars (before I got here). It is outstanding. The first time I made it I needed a last minute seasoning for a throw-together pasta. We liked it so much that I made it again using home dehydrated herbs from my garden. They are usually a milder flavor than the store bought ones so I increased those 5 herbs to 1 1/2 Tablespoons. Again, it turned out great. We will be using it from now on. Thanks!
Oh I’m so glad you enjoyed the seasoning recipe!! That makes me so happy to hear.
Hey Kristyn,
I am wondering on your yummy pizza seasoning recipe are the nutritional facts calculated for the whole batch/recipe or is that for just 1 serving?? I Love it & am thinking of making some as part of a basket gift for a group, but one person has medical issues & will need to know the amount of carbs in it. That’s why I am asking.
Thank you & Happy Cooking!
Carbs? It’s a seasoning blend Miss.
Seasonings are made from real food that contained real carbs before they were dried and transformed into what we know as herbs and spices. As such, they have carbs.
