What is a Galette?

A galette is basically a “lazy pie”. It’s a French pastry that’s similar to a tart or pie but without all the fuss. Galettes are a free form pie that doesn’t require a pan. Brilliant!!

Galettes are a great summertime dessert for many reasons. They are super simple to make, not as fussy as making an actual pie, filled with fresh summery fruit, and you can use store bought or homemade pie dough!

This blueberry galette is filled with a simple blueberry filling that only takes 5 ingredients and a few minutes to make. Talk about easy!

Ingredients for blueberry galette recipe

Ingredients

Here is what you’ll need to make this delicious galette!

  • Blueberries – fresh is best, especially when they’re in season.
  • Sugar
  • Flour
  • Lemon juice – you can use bottled lemon juice or squeeze it fresh.
  • Butter
  • Pie dough – refrigerated pie dough works great and saves lots of time, but you can also use Homemade Pie Dough.

How to Make Blueberry Galette

PREP: Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

ASSEMBLE: Combine the blueberries, sugar, flour, and juice of 1/2 a lemon in a bowl and mix to combine, set aside. Roll the pie dough to 14 inches in diameter and spoon the berry mixture in the center of the dough. Fold edges and top with dots of butter.

BAKE: Bake for about 30 minutes or until the crust is golden.

Can I use frozen fruit? Yes, but it’s best to use fresh. If you do use frozen, thaw first and drain the extra juice before starting. Otherwise, the crust may become soggy from too much liquid.
