Warm + Hearty

I love soups and chilis, especially as the weather starts changing!! Actually, my entire family loves soups. They are warm and filling and so versatile.

Slow Cooker Turkey Chili is one of those ‘set it and forget it’ meals that can be prepped in the morning for a quick and easy dinner on a busy night. You could even use left over turkey from those special occasions.

Crockpot Turkey Chili is so delicious on it’s own, and quite filling. But if you want a little more, you can round out the meal with our favorite homemade cornbread.

Recipe Tips + FAQ

How to make chili thicker: You can also use a cornstarch slurry to thicken the chili. In a separate bowl mix together 1 tablespoon cornstarch with 1 tablespoon cold water. Once combined, stir  it into the chili. Repeat if necessary. Here are a few other ways you can use to thicken chili:

  • Remove the lid and allow some of the liquid to evaporate.
  • Add 1 tablespoon of quick oats, stir and simmer for 3-5 minutes. Repeat if needed.
  • Add a small amount of tomato paste.
  • Mash some of the beans up with a fork and stir.

Use leftovers: This a wonderful soup to make with leftover turkey. Typically after Thanksgiving since that is the most common time of the year that people bake turkeys. You can also use ground turkey instead of raw turkey. If you are not a turkey fan, use chicken, pork or beef.

How to make this ahead of time? Cook the turkey the night before and store it in the fridge. Throw all of the ingredients into the Crockpot in the morning to cook.

How to store? Divide leftover soup into individual serving containers. STORE in the fridge for up to five days. FREEZE it for up to 3 months. Thaw, if applicable, and reheat in the microwave or stove top.
