Chocolate chip banana bread is the best afternoon snack out there! Moist and chocolatey sweet bread that includes the banana + chocolate combo everyone loves.
Of all the variations of our classic banana bread recipe we’ve made, this one might be my favorite. No offense to peanut butter banana bread, or cream cheese banana bread, but this one is definitely the simplest variation!
everything is better with chocolate chips
The only thing that makes banana bread even better is CHOCOLATE CHIPS!
In fact, chocolate chips make the world a better place. Add them to anything and it instantly makes it delicious – especially to our classic banana bread recipe. I mean, is there anything better than a slice of warm chocolate chip banana bread fresh out of the oven? Sometimes I even add a little butter to a slice. Heaven!
Anyone that tries this chocolate chip banana bread falls in love with it. You can eat it for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or dessert. Just about anytime of the day! Add some ice cream and you’ve got the best dessert idea ever. Package a slice up and take it to go for a morning breakfast idea. Eat it on the side of some fruit and you’ve got one tasty lunch.
It’s always a good time for chocolate chip banana bread.
How to Make Chocolate Chip Banana Bread
BANANAS. I’ve said it before, but make sure you have super ripe bananas before starting this recipe! The banana peels need to be almost black on the outside. You’ll need four super ripe bananas for this recipe. Mash them up before starting the batter.
WET INGREDIENTS. In a mixer, cream the sugar, eggs, and oil. Then add in the vanilla, sour cream, and bananas.
DRY INGREDIENTS. Then mix together the dry ingredients in a bowl- flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and powdered whipped topping.
COMBINE. Add in the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until it’s all combined. Then gently fold in the chocolate chips. Do not over mix the batter- this might make it collapse after it’s done cooking. Gently mix all the ingredients together until they are just combined. I like to add a couple extra chocolate chips on top of the batter to make it a little prettier.
BAKE. Pour the batter into two large loaf pans that have been greased and floured. Bake the loaves in a 350 degree oven for 45-50 minutes. It should be slightly browned on top!
MAKE IT INTO MUFFINS
You can easily turn these into muffins! Here is the link to banana muffins recipe. Just be sure to add the chocolate chips and for even more sweetness add a cinnamon and sugar top.
in case you have leftovers 😉
STORING. Store your banana bread in an airtight container, a plastic zip top bag, or cover it in tinfoil! This will make sure it stays nice and moist and doesn’t dry out. It will stay fresh for a few days at room temperature on your counter or you can keep it in your fridge to stay fresh for about a week.
FREEZING. Most breads freeze quite well, and this recipe is the same. Just wrap it tightly in plastic wrap or foil and place in a freezer-safe bag. This should last up to 3-4 months stored in the freezer properly.
Just let thaw on the counter and reheat in the microwave when ready to serve.
Banana bread is the best! I think we can all agree on that. Adding chocolate chips… well, just makes it even better!
