Of all the variations of our classic Banana Bread recipe, this one might be my favorite. No offense to Peanut Butter Banana Bread, or Cream Cheese Banana Bread, but chocolate chip banana bread is definitely the simplest variation!

Recipe Tips
Whipped topping powder. Dream Whip is a common brand for powdered whipped topping, but you can often find generic versions too.
- The boxes typically come with four 1.25 oz packages.
- Use one package in the recipe.
- Do not make it according to the box direction, only use the packet of powder in the recipe.
Bread tips. There are a few little tips that can help you produce a beautifully baked loaf of the best chocolate chip banana bread recipe.
- Use a strip of parchment paper to line the long sides and bottom of the pan to help keep the bread from sticking to the pan.
- Test for doneness. Stick a toothpick or wooden skewer into the center of the bread. If it comes out clean or with a couple of crumbs, then it is done.
- If the top of the bread is browning too quickly, tent a piece of tin foil over it during the remainder of the baking time.
- Allow the bread to cool in the pan for a couple of minutes then remove and cool completely on a wire rack to avoid a soggy bottom.
in case you have leftovers
STORE. Store banana bread with chocolate chips in an airtight container, a plastic Ziploc bag, or covered in tin foil for a few days at room temperature on the counter or up to a week in the fridge.
FREEZE. Most bread freezes quite well, and this recipe is the same. Wrap it tightly in plastic wrap or foil and place it in a freezer bag.
This should last up to 3-4 months when stored properly in the freezer.
Thaw on the counter and reheat in the microwave when ready to serve.
Recipe FAQ
Unless they’re going moldy and infested with fruit flies, there’s no such thing as too ripe! The banana peels should have large dark spots with very little yellow showing through. When they get to this point, they are very sweet and soft.
A cracked top is very common when making quick bread. It happens when the top forms a crust before the center has finished expanding.
It’s similar to powdered milk. You add water to it, and whip it together to make instant whipped cream. Dream Whip is a common brand, but you can often find generic versions too. Make sure you just use the powder in the banana bread recipe, don’t follow the instructions on the package.
