Fajita seasoning is a perfect blend of spices to create mouth-watering fajitas and other delicious dishes with just the right amount of heat!!
A homemade mix of fajita seasoning is perfect for your Sheet Pan Chicken Fajitas or steak Fajitas.
We Love a Good Seasoning
If you love Mexican food like we do, Fajitas are sure to be a favorite! There is nothing better than a Flour Tortilla filled with perfectly spiced, sizzling Chicken Fajitas smothered in a flavorful rub.
Once you make homemade fajita seasoning or Taco Seasoning, you’ll never buy it from the store again. Both will take your dinners to the next level of flavor!
Why we love it:
- Not just for fajitas. Use fajita seasoning to elevate the flavor of various dishes, from veggies to Scrambled Eggs.
- Make a big batch. We like to triple this homemade seasoning to have enough to store to use for future recipes. It takes meats to a whole new level!
- A healthier option. Control the sodium and sugar content to create a healthier alternative to store-bought seasoning packets, it’s cost-effective too!
- Pick your protein. Use these spice blends on your favorite protein from chicken, steak, shrimp, or tofu. Just add Flour Tortillas and pick your Mexican side dishes!
Pantry STaple INgredients
- cornstarch
- chili powder
- salt
- paprika
- sugar
- onion powder
- garlic powder
- cayenne pepper

For even more added flavor: add a bit of lime juice as well!
How to Make Fajita Seasoning from Scratch
- JUST COMBINE! Whisk together all of the ingredients in a small bowl. Stir in an airtight container until ready to use.
You can always use more or less, but generally, I like to use 1 tablespoon of fajita spice mix per pound of meat.
Add to your choice of beef or chicken: chicken breasts, chicken thighs, skirt steak and flank steak are our go-to’s.
Recipe Tips
- Variations. Adjust the homemade fajita seasoning mix to your taste. Increase or decrease any of the ingredients. Include anything from chipotle powder to a dash of cocoa powder.
- Not just for fajitas. This better-than-store-bought fajita seasoning adds flavor:
- Flavor Oven Roasted Vegetables or Mexican Corn.
- Sprinkle it over baked potatoes or sweet potatoes.
- Mix it in with Canned Refried Beans, black beans, and Homemade Spanish Rice.
- STORE. Homemade fajita seasoning recipe can last up to 6 months when stored in a dry place. It’s best stored in a glass jar, but any airtight container will do.
