A New-Found Favorite

I LOVE HOT COCOA!! It’s been a favorite for years and years, like many of you, I’m sure. This year I was introduced to Frozen Hot Chocolate, and I’m still trying to debate which one I like more! They are both SO delicious and chocolate-y it’s hard to pick a favorite.

I had heard about Frozen Hot Cocoa for years but just tried it for the first time a few months ago when I made this recipe. It was a hit with the family and reminded me of a more water-y frosty from Wendy’s. YUM!!

My love for Frozen Hot Cocoa grew even more when the hubby and I visited the restaurant, Serendipity, in NYC in October. We had gone to New York to celebrate our 10 year anniversary and made sure to go to the famous restaurant to get the delicious, frozen drink. You can see from my picture below that I was a bit excited to try it. ๐Ÿ˜‰

If you love hot cocoa but want to change things up and make a frozen version, then you’ll love this recipe. Only 3 ingredients are required and then it’s optional to top it off with whipped cream and chocolate curls. Either way, you’ll love this chocolate-y beverage and it’s sure to become a new favorite. ๐Ÿ˜‰

How to make Frozen Hot Chocolate

All it takes is 3 ingredients and about 5 minutes to whip up this tasty treat!

BLEND & SERVE. Place milk, cocoa mix and ice in a blender. Blend until mostly smooth. Pour into a glass and top with whipped cream and chocolate curls.

How to get chocolate curls: The easiest way I like to get chocolate curls is to use a hershey bar and a potato peeler. If the chocolate is too cool/hard then it will flake off instead of curl so be sure that it is room temperature.

Chocolate Packet: If your grocery store doesn’t carry hot chocolate packets, you can use hot chocolate from a canister. One packet is about 2 ยฝ tbsp chocolate mix.

You can also make your own hot chocolate powder using:

  • ยฝ c powdered milk
  • ยฝ c unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ยพ c powdered sugar
  • ยผ tsp salt

Whisk all the ingredients together and store in an airtight container. Use as you would any other hot chocolate powder.

Storing

Storage: Like soft serve ice cream or milk shakes this treat doesnโ€™t store very well so I suggest making what you’ll consume.

If by chance you do have leftovers, you can place them in the fridge for a couple hours, or in the freezer for a week or so. To revive let thaw, if frozen, and reblend.
