Christmas Carol Game

I LOVE Christmas, and I especially love Christmas games! Whip out the Eggnog and a big batch of cookies because this Guess the Christmas Carol Game is perfect for the entire family!

A few years ago, I was in charge of coming up with a game for a church Christmas party. Seemed pretty easy, but then I realized it’s not so easy to do when you have over 150 people involved.

I found a Guess the Christmas Carol Game online that we modified to be perfect for the night. Everyone played it as they came in and accomplished the task as a table. The table who finished it first and with the most correct won.

We had so much fun and loved that it was a little challenging. Knowing I would probably need it again, I made sure to make it into a cute printable!

Gameplay + variations

The object of the game is to match the clue to a Christmas Carol. Some are easier than others, but it’s a fun game to start the night off with. You may find yourself scratching your head trying to figure some of these out.

Decipher the Christmas Carol Game Play Variations:

  • Play as an individual, in pairs, or as a group.
  • Set a time limit, the more players on a team, the less time is given.
  • Depending on the environment of the party, have people put phones in a common basket to discourage help from Siri.

Other Christmas Carol Games

If you’re not a linguist and are more spatial and artistic, these other Christmas Carol Games will be right up your alley.

Here are the basic rules of play:

For both games, write the name of Christmas Carols on different slips of paper (or a Christmas song lyric for more of a challenge), fold the slips and place them in a hat, bag, or bowl. Divide into even teams.

Christmas Carol Pictionary. Have a large whiteboard or pad of paper along with a drawing utensil for each team.

  • A representative from each team comes forward.
  • One of them chooses a slip of paper from the hat and shows it to the other representatives.
  • When the timer begins, each representative begins drawing out the carol for their team.
  • The first team to guess correctly wins the point.

Variation: Instead of having a representative from each team drawing at the same time, have one team drawing at a time, each choosing a new carol. In this case, assign different point values for how quickly the team was able to guess.

Christmas Carol Charades. The rules of play are similar to Pictionary, but instead of drawing out the carol, you will be acting out the Christmas Carol for your team to guess.

Name that Tune.

For those with a musical ear, play Name that Tune. Find the instrumental versions of some Christmas Carols (no words, just music). Play individually or in pairs.

  • Version A: Pass out a pen or pencil and a piece of paper to each of the players. Play a snippet of the carol and have players write down the name of the carol. The one with the most correct wins.
  • Version B: Traditional bingo draws a ball with a number and letter that coordinates to your personal bingo card grid, but you can make bingo cards with the name of, or a picture representation of, different Christmas Carols in each square. When the tune is played mark off the square on your card that it matches.
