A Halloween Favorite!
One of my favorite parts of October is all of the gatherings and parties! It’s fun to make festive treats with the kids, especially these Halloween Cookies.
They’re our favorite, and here’s why:
- They’re simple. This cookie recipe is a modification of our classic M&M Cookie recipe (and Chocolate Chip Cookies), which is very easy and made in no time.
- Festive. With the Halloween M&Ms, sprinkles and candy eyes, they’re perfectly festive and delicious too!
- Make Ahead and Freeze. Like most cookie recipes, this one can easily be made in advance and stored (baked or unbaked).
These are the perfect addition to any Halloween party!
Simple Ingredients
- Sugar – we use both granulated and brown sugar for this recipe.
- Butter – salted or unsalted both work (use whichever you prefer for cookies)
- Vegetable Oil
- Eggs
- Baking Powder
- Baking Soda
- Salt
- Vanilla Extract
- All-Purpose Flour
- Halloween M&Ms, chopped – We love this chopper for crushing M&Ms.
- Toppings – Eye candies, sprinkles, chocolate chips and more add to the color and festivity of this cookie.
How to Make Halloween Cookies
We love how simple these are to make!
- PREP. Heat oven to 350°F.
- WET INGREDIENTS. In a mixing bowl cream together sugars, butter, and oil. Add eggs and beat until fluffy.
- DRY INGREDIENTS. Add dry ingredients, as well as vanilla, and mix until combined. Stir in ½ cup chopped M&M’s. (You can add more or less according to your preference)
- SCOOP. Scoop onto a baking sheet. Add a few whole M&M’s and sprinkles to the top of the dough.
- BAKE + COOL. Bake cookies for 7-8 minutes. Add a few eyeball candies to the top of baked cookies. Allow to cool on the baking sheet.
For added flavor, you can add peanut butter, chocolate, Oreos, chocolate chips and more.
Recipe Tips
These easy Halloween cookies are quick and simple, with few ingredients.
- DO NOT pack your flour. Fluff flour and then spoon into a measuring cup making sure to level off before adding to your cookie dough.
- Size. Make a batch of mini cookies or large “monster” size by changing the size of the dough balls. Reduce the bake time for smaller cookies, and increase the time for larger ones.
- Decorations. Use any fun Halloween candy or sprinkles such as Reese’s Pieces, chocolate chips, candy corn, Halloween-colored jimmies, orange sugar sprinkles or frosting, piped spiders, or Halloween sprinkles.
Storing info
- Freeze cookie dough. Place cookie dough balls on a baking sheet. Stick it in the freezer. Once the dough is solid transfer them to a freezer-safe ziploc. Freeze for up to 3 months.
- To bake, allow them to thaw a bit before putting them in the oven. You may need to add an extra minute or two to compensate for the chillier dough.
- STORE baked cute Halloween cookies in an airtight container on the counter or in the freezer. When storing at room temperature add a piece of white bread into the container to help keep them softer longer, store for 3-4 days.
M&M Halloween cookies can last for 2-3 months in the freezer.
