We Love Easy!

A walking taco is just that, a taco you can eat while walking! It’s more of a taco salad in a bag.

It’s a favorite dinner the whole family loves!

Why we love them:

  • Easy to make. SO simple to make, and easy to clean up – a classic easy dinner!
  • Easy to eat. We love to have them on grab-and-go busy dinner nights or as fun food at outdoor parties or gatherings.
  • For a crowd. Make as little or as much as you need!
  • Change it up. They are completely customizable! Everyone gets exactly what they want – it’s perfect!

Walking Taco Ingredients

  • ground beef Ground beef can be replaced with ground chicken or ground turkey
  • taco seasoning mix Most 1-ounce packets contain about 3 tablespoons of taco seasoning. Make Homemade Taco Seasoning Mix using chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, red pepper flakes, oregano, paprika, cumin, salt, and pepper. Reduce or increase the amounts according to your desired flavor.
  • water
  • Individual bags of corn chips My family likes Nacho Cheese Doritos or a bag of Fritos with tacos or use your favorites!
  • Toppings lettuce, shredded Mexican cheese, sour cream, guacamole, cherry tomatoes

How to Make Walking Tacos

  1. GROUND BEEF. Cook beef and crumble in a large skillet until no longer pink. Drain fat. Add water and taco seasoning, reduce heat, and simmer for about 20 minutes.
  2. TOPPINGS. Slice up or shred any toppings you want to use, including cherry tomatoes, lettuce, or cheese.
  3. ASSEMBLE. Once the meat is done, open chip bags and add toppings, and serve immediately.

Recipe Tips

Walking taco salad is easy to make and even easier to clean up!

  • Easy clean up. They are fun and convenient, but I suggest also having a stack of paper bowls for anyone who would prefer to use them to build their tacos instead.
  • Feed the masses. For a group. In my experience, most people ate 1-2 servings. Provide both 1-ounce snack-size bags of chips as well as 2-ounce bags for those who want a bigger serving.

Storing Info

  • Make ahead of time. Cook the taco meat and store it in the fridge for 3-4 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months. Many of the toppings can be prepped the day before and stored until you’re ready to serve.
  • STORE any leftover ingredients in separate airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
