What is a walking taco?

Basically a walking taco is just that, a talking that you can eat while walking! It’s actually more of a taco salad in a bag. It is SO easy to make, easy to clean up, and easy to eat!

I first saw these at a Youth Girls Camp and come to find out it is one of the girls’ favorite meals. They’re super easy for the camp leaders to make and the girls love them. Win-Win! (No wonder they are served every year). 😉

We love to have them on grab and go busy dinner nights, or as a fun food at outdoor parties or gatherings. We do love our tacos, but it’s fun to shake things up a bit sometimes!

These basically make themselves they are that easy!

GROUND BEEF. Cook beef and crumble in a large skillet until no longer pink. Drain fat. Add water and taco seasoning and reduce heat and simmer for about 20 minutes.

TOPPINGS. Slice up or shred any toppings you want to use, including cherry tomatoes, lettuce or cheese.

ASSEMBLE. Once the meat is done, open chip bags and add toppings and serve immediately.

TAco Topping Suggestions

At camp they keep the toppings pretty simple, but if you want to serve these at a party or other gathering you can offer a delicious spread of toppings.

Our recipe card lists lettuce, cheese, guacamole, sour cream, and tomatoes.

But you can also use:

Sliced cherry tomatoes and shredded lettuce on a cutting board

Tips + Variations

My family likes Cheese Doritos or Fritos with tacos, but if you like other chip flavors in a bag, then you can certainly use them. You can also opt to buy the larger 2 oz individual sized bags of chips.

As fun and convenient as tacos in a bag are I suggest also having a stack of paper bowls for anyone who would prefer to use that to build their tacos instead.

Taco variations:

STORE any leftovers in separate airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
