Add the perfect crunch to your dishes with fried wonton strips, with just 2 ingredients they fry up in minutes!
The Perfect Crunch!
We love Asian food and enjoy it weekly!
Whether it’s Asian soups or salads, fried wonton strips are a favorite topping. They are crispy and add the PERFECT crunch! Because we love them so much and because they’re so easy, we wanted to show you how to make them as well.
For these fried wonton strips, we use premade egg roll wrappers. Then you simply cut and fry! From start to finish, these are garnish-ready in only 8 minutes.
We especially love using these crispy wonton strips to top our Egg Drop Soup and Asian Citrus Chicken Salad. We’ve even love to use them on Hawaiian Haystacks. They’re truly the perfect crunchy topping!
WHY WE LOVE IT:
- For soups, salads, and snacks. Wonton strips are perfect for anything that needs a crunch!
- Only 2 ingredients. Egg roll wrappers and oil – that’s it!
- Ready in minutes. 8 minutes to be exact, just cut and fry. Enjoy the added crunch in no time at all.
Ingredients
PREP TIME: 2 minutes
FRY TIME: 6 minutes
- 4 egg roll wrappers – or wonton wrappers
- 1 cup canola oil – or vegetable oil, peanut oil, or olive oil labeled for frying
How to Make Fried Wonton Strips
- PREP. Place 4 egg roll wrappers stacked onto a cutting board and cut into ½-inch wide strips using a pizza cutter or sharp knife.
- FRY. In a medium skillet or pot over medium heat 1 cup oil (using a thermometer, we try to get to 350-375°F). Working in batches, add wonton strips in a single layer, and fry until golden brown. They will crisp up quickly so watch them carefully.
- Use a slotted spoon or spider strainer to place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil and set aside. Salt if desired.
- SERVE. Top your favorite soup like Egg Drop Soup, or salad like Chinese Pasta Salad. Eat them as a savory snack by dipping them in Hummus, Salsa, duck sauce, or Chinese hot mustard. Coat them with cinnamon and sugar and add to a scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream.
Air Fryer Directions
Preheat your air fryer to 350°F. Lightly spray the strips with olive oil and place them in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Air fry for 4-6 minutes, flipping halfway, or until crispy and golden brown.

Recipe FAQ
While best when freshly made, you can make them a day in advance. If you want to serve them warm, just spread them into a single layer on a baking sheet, and bake for 1-2 minutes at 350°F.
Store leftovers in an airtight container for 3-4 days.
