Oreo popcorn

Hi there! Shannon from Fitness Food Diva here!! Popcorn is one of my favorite snacks, not to mention how yummy it smells as it is popping away either in the microwave in in the popcorn maker.

Adding Oreos and white chocolate chips gives movie night a whole new perspective. It is so simple to make your kids will love to join in the fun. Today I used the reduced fat Oreos to make it not quite such a guilty pleasure, but of course you can use whatever type of Oreos you and your family love.

Oreo Popcorn Recipe

POPCORN. Pop bag of popcorn according to package instructions, making sure not to burn it. Remove any kernels that did not pop.

OREOS. Place Oreos in a large Ziploc bag and crush, but leave semi chunky. Mix the popcorn and crushed Oreos together.

CHOCOLATE. Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave in 30 second intervals, mixing in between intervals until smooth. Drizzle half of the melted chocolate over the popcorn and using a rubber spatula, coat evenly. Add the rest of the chocolate and toss mixture gently until it is all mixed together.

SET. Spread mixture onto a large sheet of wax paper and place on a cookie sheet and allow coating to set completely. Eat and Enjoy!

STORE any left overs in an airtight container.

Tips, Variations + Storing Info

I used the microwave bag of popcorn because theyโ€™re super easy. However, you can also use popcorn kernels and an air popper. One bag of microwave popcorn should yield about 13 cups of popped popcorn. So use ยฝ c popcorn kernels to get 13 cups of popcorn.

To crush Oreos, use a food processor or put them in bag and crush them with a rolling pin. You donโ€™t want them to be powdered, you just want them to be roughly smashed.

Why is my popcorn chewy?

If your popcorn ends up being chewy it is probably because it was stored warm and some of the condensation got stuck in the container and the popcorn absorbed it.

Additions/Variations:

  • Use other candy coating
    • Vanilla candiquik
    • Almond bark
    • Ghirardelli Candy melts
  • Add whole mini Oreos
  • Buttered popcorn

STORE this delicious Oreo Popcorn in an airtight container at room temperature for 3-4 days.
