A Cookies and Cream Twist!

First of all, do you call it muddy buddies, or puppy chow? What ever you call it, it could be the greatest treat ever invented.

It takes minutes to make, it only consists of a few ingredients, and it’s completely addicting! The traditional version with peanut butter is delish, but I’m completely hooked on this Oreo version!!

Let’s be honest, Oreos incorporated into any treat (like my Oreo Fluff Dessert) takes it to a whole new level!

I’m warning you now, these muddy muddies cookies and cream will be your new favorite movie night treat!

How to make Oreo Muddy Buddies

CHEX. Divide Chex cereal into two large bowls (3 cups in each bowl).

OREO. Crush Oreos into fine crumbs using a food processor or by putting them in a Ziploc bag and crushing them with a rolling pin. Divide the Oreo crumbs evenly into two separate Ziploc bags (about ยฝ cup in each bag). Add ยฝ cup of powdered sugar to each bag. Set aside.

MILK CHOCOLATE CHIPS. Melt the milk chocolate chips– I like to use a double boiler, but you can also melt them in the microwave, stirring every 30 seconds until melted. Pour the melted chocolate into one of the bowls of Chex cereal and stir gently until the cereal is evenly coated in chocolate.

WHITE CHOCOLATE CHIPS. Melt the white chocolate chips. Pour the melted white chocolate into the other bowl with Chex cereal and stir gently until the cereal is evenly coated in white chocolate.

MIX. Add the milk chocolate Chex to one of the gallon Ziploc bags, and the add the white chocolate Chex to the other gallon Ziploc bag and shake the bags well to evenly coat the cereal with powdered sugar.

ENJOY! Pour both bags together into one large bowl. And if you’ve got any extra Oreos in your package, chop some up and add them to the mix!

Variations/Additions:

  • Use golden Oreos for the โ€œcookiesโ€ muddy buddies
  • Use Hersheyโ€™s Cookies and Cream Bars instead of white chocolate for the โ€œcreamโ€ muddy buddies

Tips + FAQ

  • Chex: The most commonly used Chex cereal for muddy buddies is either Corn or Rice Chex. Either of them will work great for this recipe, but you can use whatever kind of Chex you want.
  • Thorough Coating: To coat muddy buddies more thoroughly, shake the bag/Tupperware more aggressively. Add more powdered sugar and continue shaking, more sugar couldnโ€™t hurt!
  • Serving: Serve in a large bowl or in individual serving cups available for guests to use to scoop themselves some muddy buddies!

How to store? Store the muddy buddies in airtight container at room temperature for about 1 week. Or, in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Can you use other Oreos? Of course! Try different varieties of Oreos to enhance the flavors of this Cookies and Cream Muddy Buddies.

My SIL has celiac and muddy buddies are often made for family gatherings. For others who need gluten free – order a package if gluten free Oreos. They work great!

So good! It’s hard to not eat extra Oreos when making! Or maybe that’s the reward!?
