Tender, tasty, and ready in a flash, sweet glazed carrots are a four-ingredient side dish that’s always a crowd-pleaser.

OUR favorite side dish!
Glazed carrots happen to be one of our all-time favorite side dishes ever!!
We first made them for Christmas over a decade ago, and we’ve been making them for holidays ever since. The butter and brown sugar bring out the flavor, and the carrots become so tender after cooking them that they literally melt in your mouth.
Now, the kids request these brown sugar glazed carrots for birthdays, special meals and every holiday dinner because they love them so much. Once you try them, you’ll easily see why they’re a favorite.
WHY WE LOVE IT:
- They pair well with every main dish! This is the perfect vegetable side dish, especially for special occasions like Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
- Quick and easy. Made with just a few ingredients and in 20 minutes.
- Many ways to make. This easy side dish can be made on the stove, in the oven, slow cooker, or instant pot!

Ingredients
PREP TIME: 5 minutes
COOK TIME: 15 minutes
- 1 16-ounce bag baby carrots – You can also use larger carrots – peel and cut into coins or sticks. Just make sure the carrot slices are all equal in size.
- ½ cup water – This will help cook the carrots and make them tender.
- 2 tablespoons light brown sugar – or dark brown sugar or substitute with honey or maple syrup. Reduce brown sugar for less sweet carrots.
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter – We use unsalted butter but salted butter can be used as well – just lessen the amount of salt added at the end.
- salt and black pepper – Top with fresh herbs like parsley or thyme. You can also squeeze an orange or lemon juice over the top for a bright twist.

How to Cook Glazed Carrots
- BOIL. Bring 1 16-ounce bag carrots, ½ cup water, 2 tablespoons butter, and 2 tablespoons brown sugar to a boil in a pan or large skillet over medium-high heat.
- SIMMER. Turn to low, simmer for approximately 6 minutes.
- EVAPORATE WATER. Turn back to high and cook until all the water is evaporated, and carrots are fork tender. It took me another 5-8 minutes.
- SEASON & SERVE. Remove from heat. Season with salt and pepper, and enjoy!
Alternative Cooking Methods
- Slow cooker. Place the carrots in a greased crock pot. Combine melted butter, salt, pepper, brown sugar and water. Drizzle over carrots, mix until carrots are coated. Cook on HIGH for 2-3 hours, or until carrots are tender.
- Oven. Place your baby carrots in a buttered baking dish and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons brown sugar and drizzle on 2 tablespoons melted butter. Cover and bake at 350° for 1 hour.
- Instant pot. To cook in an instant pot or pressure cooker, place all ingredients in the pot, cover, and secure the vent. Set the pot to “sealing”, press “pressure cook” or “manual” button”. Set the timer for 3 minutes. Once done, manually release the pressure by switching the vent to “venting”.

Recipe FAQ
Add ⅓ cup pine nuts, walnuts, or pecans (chopped and toasted) after simmering for 6 minutes.
Yes! The brown sugar is what makes them “candied” or caramelized. If you want more of the sweetness, just add some more brown sugar!
We suggest making them fresh, but if needed, you can make them a day ahead. Store in an air-tight container in the refrigerator.
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days. Reheat them in the microwave, or in a skillet on the stove.
To reheat, throw them back into a buttered pan, and cook until carrots are heated through.
Excellent! I too just cut up the carrots and liked having them bigger than we used to do in this sort of recipe. I was sent here from the kitchen website and you really do have the best method. Thanks.
You’re welcome! So glad you enjoyed the recipe!
Made these and they were SO delicious and SO easy! I forgot to salt and pepper them at the end and they were STILL amazing!! Thank you for sharing!!
These are my favorite glazed carrots! I use regular carrots, not baby, and I always have to share the recipe after every dinner party. Thank you!
Perfect and so simple!
Quick and easy to follow and they came out perfectly. For thicker baby carrots, I added an extra 3 minutes.
This recipe is Phenomenal!! My family were fighting over the left overs, especially the son that “doesn’t eat carrots!” 😂😂 Thank you so very much!!!
Wish I could actually read the recipe. This website is so terrible with pop ads that make you scroll all the way back to the recipe every 2 seconds.
The ads enable us to keep all of our recipes and content free for our readers. So thanks for being here and checking out the recipe!
Excellent! I only had a 1/2 lb of baby carrots, so I added a can of diced mango (drained). Skipped the s&p and used ground ginger instead. Added chopped walnuts too… Big winner!
Good. Almost exactly what I wanted. We had to increase to the cook time five minutes to get them done to our likeness. Thanks!
I’ve made oven roasted carrots few times and they take forever. Decided to give this method a shot based on good reviews. Came out great! I cut the recipe in half and used 4 large carrots diced in thick coins. Seasoned with salt and pepper to taste, also added parsley flakes. For those who didn’t get to their desired tenderness, just keep adding small amounts of water so they continue to steam.
These are so good, thanks for sharing
Oh my goodness …. these are awesome!! My family requests these all the time. I followed the recipe exact and they are tender and tasty every time.
I just made these tonight, and they were a big hit! My husband loved them, so we will certainly have them again…. and again. Our grandchildren will find these to be as good as a dessert. I followed the directions as given, and they turned out tender and beautiful.
I agree about the pop-up ads being a huge nuisance on here. I don’t mind seeing an ad or ads, but this was so jumpy it was ridiculous. I couldn’t even find where I was previously when reading some comments, the ads jumped my location multiple times. But I am going to try this recipe, since we want glazed carrots for Thanksgiving, and I don’t want to ask mother in law to make another dish to bring! No parsley for us, only because it’s an option that no one here would appreciate except me (hubby and son) like it unadorned.
I followed recipe for carrots….
After 6 min of cooking, they weren’t cooked…. I then up to boil until water was gone….
Still not cooked well at all
Sorry to hear the recipe didn’t turn out for you. So, after 6 minutes they won’t be cooked. The recipe does say to increase the heat to high and boil until water is evaporated (about 5-6 more minutes). It sounds like you did that but the carrots needed more time. In that case, you could add a small amount of water to the bottom of the pan and try steaming again until they are cooked to your desired softness.
I needed a quick side dish and had a bag of carrots that were about to go bad and when I searched glazed carrots, I came across this recipe. It was easy and delicious. Thanks!
These are so easy and delish!!!!
Ive been making a form of these carrots for years, I cook in the crock pot. They are a regest for every family get together.
For sweetner I’ve used confection sugar, brown sugar, honey, maple syrup, or molasses they are always good. Sometimes I’ll add dehydrated onions and/or dehydrated onions.
That sounds delicious. Thanks for sharing what you do!
Any suggestions for using the crinkle cut carrot slices? Is there a time difference for cooking them?
I would use the time on the package. In my experience, if they are over cooked, it adds a litle more caramelization of the brown suger adding more flavor.
This has become a staple at our dinner table every Thanksgiving! It even has replaced my mom’s sweet potato casserole with marshmallows recipe because everyone loves this 1000 times more!
Excellent side for Thanksgiving!
Made as directed, but did remove the pan cover for the last 5 minutes. Helped reduce and left a nice glaze.
These are the absolute best and easiest candied carrots ever! My mom used to make candied carrots but I couldn’t remember how so I came up with what I “thought” was close. I was making it way too hard! These are so easy and perfect every time. Sometimes I peel and slice whole carrots. I always use healthy sweetener in place of brown sugar (I have to watch my sugar intake and carrots are already high). Perfect. Every. Time.
THANK YOU for sharing this recipe!
You’re welcome! I’m so glad you enjoy the reicpe!
Finally! My son will only eat these carrots. I am so happy I found this recipe!
These are so good! We make them all the time for dinner and my kids love them.
This such a tender and tasty side dish. Just 4 ingredients! Perfect with Mashed Potatoes and Dinner Rolls. Simple, delicious addition to any meal.
Delicious!!! Added more sugar and butter but perfect for Thanksgiving
we love candied carrots. Often times I will add craisins, and chopped nuts the last five minutes of cooking time..
I love baby carrot’s. I have fixed them and none is left.
super easy and delicious! My friends commented on how delicious they were!
I will make these again for sure.
I am tired of runny carrots. How do I make a thick glaze with honey and brown sugar for my carrots?
This recipe calls for just brown sugar, but you could either add or substitute for honey. You may need to just let the water evaporate a bit until there is less water/less runny.
i also don’t like the thin glaze. i boil the carrots until they are crisp/tender then completely drain them and put them back over the burner turned low. i add in a couple heaping tablespoons of dark brown sugar (more may make it thicker) and sprinkle in a little cinnamon. my family loves them this way and i fix them quite often to serve with pork chops and stove top dressing prepared in another pan, i find the butter, salt and pepper unnecessary. they are ready to serve when you stir it all together good. if you want a thicker sauce i suppose you could add in a cornstarch slurry. there’s not much of a sauce in this, it’s just what stays on the carrots as you stir them so serve from the bottom of the pan. most important to me is not over cooking the carrots.
Made this for Easter and it was amazing! (╹◡╹)
Any tips for preparing ahead of time to then bring on an hour car ride and serve at a relative’s Easter dinner?
We’d suggest storing in an air-tight container in the refrigerator. Then to reheat, throw them back into a buttered pan, and cook until carrots are heated through. Hopefully they turned out great for the Easter dinner!
This recipe is delicious & easy! Tastes just like Grandma used to meke
Delish!! Quick, easy and delicious! What more could you ask for? 😊 Thanks!
Nothing 🙂 My kind of recipe!! Glad you agree! Thank you!
Sounds super easy and yummy. Will definitely be trying this one!
Sounds SO delicious!
Quick question- if I put them in the oven, do I still add the 1/2 cup of water?
Thank you for the receipe!
Cindy
Thanks! Place your baby carrots in a buttered casserole dish and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons brown sugar and drizzle on 2 tablespoons melted butter. Cover and bake at 350° for 1 hour.
I’d like a little more information. I bought a bag of fresh baby carrots. It seems this recipe works better with frozen baby carrots. Also what size pan? Do the carrots have to lay flat?
They don’t have to be frozen. I buy the bag of cut, fresh baby carrots. They don’t have to be laying flat & I use a 10in skillet.
To Judy: You would need to cook fresh raw carrots longer – on simmer – for about 10 minutes or until tender. THEN, add the butter, brown sugar and seasonings, and cook for an additional 5 minutes or so. Fresh raw carrots aren’t going to cook in 5-6 minutes.
Can I substitute butter for margarine?
Yes I’m sure you could!
Can I use chunks of fresh carrots?
Yes! I haven’t tried, but I imagine that would work great too.
I bought steamable baby carrots but I wanna glaze them. How would I cook them first? Put them in the microwave and then afterward. Take mine and glaze them there at After Stir them. Do I bacon with the glaze afterwards to heat him up or just can I stir them all together with it and just warm it up
Rather than steaming the carrots in the bag in the microwave, I’d say just top open the bag and cook them as directed in the recipe.
Sounds like Your Husband needs to do the Cooking from now on for Himself & the Kids, especially if They’re all gonna be so Nasty & Disrespectful to You. You Deserve Better.
I love this recipe, I used regular carrots not baby & did have to cook a bit longer but geez they are so good. We had some leftover & I kept picking at them until they are gone! Just like a potato chip, can’t eat just one. Thanks for a great & simple recipe.
About to cook this recipe now, but I do not have baby carrots. I have canned sliced carrots, as well as whole carrots in the fridge. To be honest, I’m not sure which one which is better so I’m going to cook to different parts a little each any guesses as to which one is better. I’ll let you know in about an hour my feedback anyway.
Family approved! I’ve made glazed carrots before. This recipe had fewer ingredients and got more rave reviews! It’s a keeper! I think the amount of cooking time to get the carrots tender may vary based on the size of the carrots. Mine took a few more minutes.
For some reason the water wouldn’t reduce enough to make the carrots glazed. But no problem. I drained the butter/ water/ brown sugar and added a dollop of butter and sprinkle of brown sugar. Still delicious!
Very delicious and easy, especially liked by those with a sweet tooth. I made it for my family on Christmas using full-grown carrots, sliced of course, and it was a big hit!
Can you do this in a crock pot?
Best carrots!!
This recipe is awesome! Love it!!
Love the flavor!
Love it, I use this side dish for my Thanksgiving this year, my whole family love it. It is so tasty and easy, simple to make. Thank you for sharing this recipe, may you and your family has wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas.
After the 6 minute cook, do I cover them or not
These are the best carrots! My family has requested these carrots for Thanksgiving for years. The only issue I’ve ever had is that the water takes a lot longer to boil off, but that is most likely because I double or triple the recipe. Other than that, it’s a simple recipe that tastes great!! This year I’m going to try the slow cooker method and see how that works.
So easy to make and delicious! I mistook and cooked them on medium high the first 6 minutes. I then turned the heat to simmer for an additional 6 minutes then cooked the moisture out on medium high. This turned out to be the correct method for me as the carrots were tender and delicious. Thanks for sharing your recipes. Hopefully my error that worked will be helpful to others.
Love this recipe! It does take longer but it’s my go-to and I use it with baby rainbow carrots. We love it!
Finally leaving a comment, this has been my go-to carrot recipe for years! So easy, quick, and everyone loves it.
My husband loved these and I have tried different ways to make these for him. Yours were a hit. Thanks
I’m so sorry you have bad feedback. I absolutely love this recipe. It’s my go to for glazed carrots. Of course it takes a little longer to cook out the liquid but, that’s cooking. You have to adjust timing. My whole family loves this recipe. ❤️
Hi, Luna and the Lil Luna team! I’d like to inform you about this atrocity that is this recipe , it was “absolutely disgusting”, as said by my husband and kids. They hated the carrots and the flavor, and it didn’t help that they hate veggies. I was counting on this recipe to work since its technically “sweet carrots” but they felt that i was tricking them and lying, they called me many profanity’s that day. They said it tasted as if someone put sugar on a carrot, which was exactly what i did so i’m guessing that’s how it technically was supposed to taste which is awful if that was the intended taste.
Hi Emily! Thanks for the feedback. Sorry to hear this recipe wasn’t a hit for your family and that they aren’t veggie fans. Hopefully there is another recipe either on our website or out there somewhere that might help them see how yummy vegetables can be. Thanks for giving the recipe a try!
Maybe Emily should go back to the kitchen and practice.
I Followed this recipe for the first time tonight, it couldn’t have been easier. I found the timing to be off, but the taste was on point. I will be using this recipe often.
I feel like that was a joke review. It read like satire to me. I’m excited to try this recipe!
If your children and husband call you profane names after a bad side dish, I think you have bigger problems than a bad recipe.
Agreed. That’s rediculus. The recipe was spot on
For real!! Way bigger problems!! Did she really use the word atrocity?? I can’t even. 🙄
Truth!!
Can you say KAREN?
Hey Emily like everyone else said you have bigger problems than these carrots lmao.
Sounds like you have family issues that need resolved…don’t blame the recipe for your husband and kids calling your profanities and being disrespectful! You should be embarrassed that you even left a comment like that…I truly hope your family gets the mental and emotional help they all desperately need!
Why do people have to be so nasty? Her family called her bad names…what a dysfunctional household! Chill Emily, this is a carrot recipe & a yummy one at that
Great. And easy recipe. I’ll be making this one a lot.
Tasty but took wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy longer than 12 minutes to boil out all the liquid. I steamed the carrots first so they were more tender. But next time there will be no water involved.
I’m glad you enjoyed the carrots! Thanks for the feedback and giving the recipe a try.
Very good and so easy to fix
Great flavor and easy. But the carrots weren’t cooked enough. Too crunchy for us. I added another 1/2 cup of water, 1T butter and 1T brown sugar and up cooked the carrots for an additional 15 minutes on medium to get them soft.
Lid or no lid???
I do no lid for this recipe.
This was actually really good. Even had the wife and kids impressed so that’s huge haha. Took a bit longer on my stove but other than that, great recipe. The cinnamon and nutmeg was a great addition!
Thanks for the feedback. So glad it was a hit for your family too!
Thanks for sharing this recipe. I made this for our residents and they loved it.
You’re welcome! So glad to hear the recipe was a hit!
My new favorite way to make carrots. So good and just the right amount of sweetness. Also the kids asked for 2nds. Thank you for such a good and easy recipe.
I have made this several times now and it’s a hit at my house. This is the only way I can get my child to eat cooked carrots!
That is definitely a win!! I’m so glad the recipe is a hit! Thanks for sharing.
Best ever!!! I make this all the time!!! My favorite carrot recipe EVER!!!!! 😊❤
Yay! So happy to hear you love the carrots!
Amazing recipe! My whole family enjoys theses glazed carrots. I always double it. Very tasty. Thanks!
I’m so glad you enjoyed the recipe and that it was a hit with your family. Thanks so much for trying it!
These were very easy to make and tasted so good! We will be making again. I did add extra brown sugar just because we wanted more. Highly recommend!
More brown sugar never hurts 🙂 Thank you so much!
How much is one serving for nutritional facts? I could probably eat about two cups they are so nummy.
I’m so glad you love them. One serving size is probably about 1/2 cup.
Tried it and loved it! Referenced this recipe on page for nutrition clients. I will be making this again! Thank you!
Yay! So happy to hear that you enjoyed the carrots. Thanks for the reference too. 🙂
Love these so easy to make . Great for little ones
This recipe is simple and good
I always wondered how people made these sweet carrots. Yours are the best and so easy to prepare. They go with any dinner! Thanks for sharing ❤️
I have always wanted to learn how people make those yummy sweet carrots. These are the best! They go great with any dinner and so easy to prepare ❤️ Thanks for sharing these!
We have these all the time and they are a hit with the kids!
those will give my kids incentive to eat carrots thank you
Ahhhmazing! Like candy!
Did it and it was yummy
Love everything!!
Thank you!!
Still a little tender thought these would result in a more softer carrot
You can definitely adjust the cooking time to reach the desired softness you’re wanting. 🙂
I’m thinking of baking them in the oven. Do I leave the dish uncovered or covered?
I would cover them. Here’s what I typically do if baking them: Place your baby carrots in a buttered casserole dish and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons brown sugar and drizzle on 2 tablespoons melted butter. Cover and bake at 350 for 1 hour.
So, how could is use up regular size carrots? Peel, slice and cook the same way? Maybe double the ingredients? Any helpful suggestions would be great. Thanks.
Yes, you can use regular carrots in place of the baby carrots. The recipe calls for a 16 oz bag, which is about the same amount as 4-6 large carrots. So depending on how many carrots you have and want to use, you can determine if you need/want to double the other ingredients. Just keep an eye on the doneness of the carrots (the time may differ a little) so they cook long enough but don’t get too mushy. You can use the suggested times as a guide. Hope you love the carrots!
Wow! Delish and easy-peasy stovetop carrots! I doubled the recipe so we would have a bit of leftovers. Used half of a costco package of carrots with kerrygold butter. They were amazing with our baked chicken and mashed potatoes! Thanks for sharing! The carrots did take a bit longer to cook – maybe about 5-6 mins extra of the boiling stage- I also added a little more water a couple times to ensure the pot wasn’t drying out.
Oh I’m so glad you loved the carrots. Thanks for sharing what you did and giving the recipe a try!
Delicious and quick side dish! Always a winner!
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed the carrots!
So easy and quick to make. Glazed carrots are my favorite. Love the recipe.

Yay!! I’m so happy to hear that. Glad the recipe was a hit!
Sooooo yummy! My only critique is they take 30+ minutes boiling to get soft.
Thanks for your feedback. Glad to hear you enjoyed the carrots!
So glad I found this recipe. I added about 1 TBSP of honey to the recipe but holy moly…I think they’re the best carrots I’ve ever had! Yum!!
Yay! So glad to hear you enjoyed the carrots. I bet the addition of honey was delicious too.
Made these last night for my family ranging from 37-1 – Everyone loved them, and it is so simple.
Also- I am a comment reader to see if any “tweaks” to the recipe stand out/look good – and there isn’t any – not that I could find at least… which means it’s perfect as is. Thanks for sharing this one!
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed the recipe… and that your family all did too! 🙂
So easy to make these super delicious carrots 🥕. My granddaughters loved them. Will definitely make them again.
I’m so happy your granddaughters loved them! That makes me so happy to hear!
Cooked my carrots using stove top method. Easy, please. Took total of 20 minutes and they were tender, hint of sweet taste. Thanks for the recipe.
I’m so happy you enjoyed them! Thanks so much for trying the recipe!
Delicious recipe, but it did take longer than recipe stated
I’m so glad you enjoyed the recipe. I will review the recipe and look at the cooking time for the carrots. Thanks for letting me know!
I was looking for something different to do with carrots. This recipe was super easy and the instructions were extremely accurate. I didn’t have baby carrots but I used regular ones and just cut them into similar sizes. Will definitely make this again.

My family loves this recipe! Perfect for cookouts and barbeques!
Yay! So glad to hear it is a hit with the family. We love this one too.
My husband made this recipe for us this week, and we found it absolutely delicious—and VERY easy to follow. So delicious to me, in fact, that I ate the few remainders he’d left in the pot!!!

It was simlle and awesome and woeked well with sugar free brown sugar!
So glad you enjoyed it!
What sized casserole dish do you recommend if making in oven?
I would use an 8×8 casserole dish for this recipe. If you double the recipe then a 9×13 casserole dish would work. Hope this helps!
Super easy and very delish!
Awe, thank you! I’m so glad you enjoyed the recipe!
I’m going to make this recipe for the first time today.
Let me know how it goes. I’d love to hear!
These are amazing! We added broccoli too!

Great recipe. I added 2 cloves of garlic to the steamer basket and pressed and mixed into the brown sugar and butter. Gave the carrots an excellent elevation, cut down some of the sweetness
Thank you! Thanks for sharing what you did!
Great recipe
Glad you liked them! Thank you!
when cooking in the oven do omit the water?
Yes 🙂 Enjoy!!
Love the ingredients that Went into this recipe but i Could not get my carrots to become soft or tender?? What am i missing here? 10 mins doesnt Seem long enough for raw carrots to Become soft and tendEr. Thanks for the suggestions!
They probably just needed a little longer. They aren’t completely soft or mushy feeling, just tender. I hope you will try them again 🙂
Judging from ingredients this dish is not only tasty but healthy as well. rare combination these days, thank you.
https://tanksawesome.com

You are welcome!! They are both, for sure 🙂 Hope you try them soon!
just wow, who would have carrots would serve a great purpose other than just used in salads. Am super impressed by your thoughts and definitely going to to try this recipe at home. am sure kids will love this.
Looks delicious!!
My vegetarian sister in law is coming for dinner .. she says she can’t use butter … wondering if olive oil would [successfully] replace butter?
Yes, it will be ok 🙂 Hope they are a hit!!
My kids devoured these…could be the brown sugar glaze! Tasted like dessert!
Brown sugar glazed carrots are my favorite! They are tender & so much better than plain carrots!!
I also add 1/8-1/4 cup of Pie Hole ( Canadian whiskey and pecan liqueur) . Alcohol Cooks off, gives a new dimension with pecan flavor added to the brown sugar and butter.
Thank you for sharing that! I will have to try sometime!
Hi making for first time today for potluck thanksgiving. I 4x the recipe but ended up with a lot of liquid. Does it have a lot of liquid for finished product?
I don’t usually have lots of liquid leftover, but I don’t usually 4x the recipe. That may have affected the amount of liquid left. It may have just needed a little longer to evaporate all the water. Hopefully the carrots still tasted delicious! 🙂
I made these tonight and they were amazing! I had to cook them a little longer than the suggested time, but everything turned out perfectly. I will definitely be making these again.
Glad you liked them!! Thank you for trying them!
very good i made them along with
pork chops
Perfect!! Glad you liked them!
The webpage is way too busy. Can’t find the ingredient list due to all the extraneous stuff.
I will try the recipe, as it seems good.
Hope you like them! The recipe is there in the recipe card 😉
I don’t have any baby carrots on hand, but I do have lots of full size carrots cut into sticks. Would this recipe be the same if I weigh out the same amount as a bag of baby carrots? Or would they cook too quickly?
It looks delicious!
You know, I have not tried that, so that’s a good question. I would have to try it out 🙂
perfection! My 5yo still wont eat a carrot bUt everyone else loved Them!
Yay!! Yeah, I have a few picky eaters too 🙂 Thank you so much!
Love this not over sweet.
Glad you liked it! Thank you!
Been looking for a RECIPE like this for my husband. TRIED them tonight for supper. Delicious! I can’t wait to try the crock pot recipe. Thank you for sharing it.

It is 1 tablespoon plus 1/2 tablespoon 🙂 Hope you like these, as much as we do!!
This is my husbands all time favorite side dish to add to any meal. Its so simple and the brown sugar adds such a great flavor.
I don’t usually like warm carrots, but I had these recently & they were so good!! The brown sugar adds so much flavor! I can’t wait to make these for thanksgiving!
A pretty simple side dish that requires hardly any work and taste so good. Perfect side dish for any meal and would be good for Thanksgiving!
I needed a last minute side dish for a Sunday dinner at my in-laws and was able to throw this together super quick! It was SO simple and quick to make, and everyone loved it! Definitely keeping this recipe on hand!!
I followed the directions exactly and everyone loved these carrots. I will be making these often. Thank you!
Aren’t they so good?! I am glad they were a hit! Thank you!
Do you cover when cooking carrots?
No, you don’t need to 🙂 Hope you like them, as much as we do!
Which kind of brown sugar – dark or light?
I like to use light. Hope that helps 🙂
Lovely menu and by the ham being in the crock pot, the oven is free for sides.
Thank you for publishing an easy dinner with food even the children will enjoy.
You are so welcome! Thanks for stopping by!
Really good recipe, and really easy to make.
That’s why I love it! Glad you think so, too! Thank you!
I want to make these for Thanksgiving but not sure how many 16oz bags to use for about 25 people. Any suggestions? Thanks!
I would just maybe double it. I know people don’t usually serve themselves a large amount of carrots, but really if it looks like not enough, add one more bag 🙂 Hope everyone loves them!
Love, love, love these!
So, do I!!! Thanks so much for stopping by!
Hi! I found your site while looking for something else. The Creamy Swiss Chicken Bake looked good. Before I could make it, my daughter-in-law made it for us and it was delicious! I am making it again tonight for my daghter & her family. I think it is a forgiving recipe. I slathered some of the mayo/sour cream mixture on the chicken first, then the Parmesan cheese then the slice of cheese. For her family I used mozzarella cheese since her husband isn’t a swiss cheese fan. I ended by using some more “goop” (sorry, but that is the best way to describe it). We’ll see how it turns out, but I would think it will be delicious!
Haha…that’s great!! Thank you for making it!
Thank you, this is an amazing recipe; I make these carrots allllll the time! The only thing I do different is add a bit more brown sugar.
Thank you!! It’s the best way to eat them 🙂 And, more brown sugar wouldn’t hurt 😉
These are really good. I finally found a good recipe for cooked carrots.
Yay! We love these carrots and are the perfect side. Thank you so much!
Delicious!
Thank you for sharing this recipe
I just made them but with coconut oil and coconut sugar with the same amount listed in your ingredients and they turned out super delicious
Oooh – I’ll have to try that next time. Sounds great!
What kind of pan do you use please?
Tried these tonight. They were so good! Glad I found this, it was a good change from regular boiled carrots.
So glad you liked them, Nancy!! They’re definitely a favorite of ours too. Thanks for stopping by! 😉
Are you sure 1/2 of water is enough for 1 lb of baby carrots? Doesn’t seem like enough water to me. Thanks
It’s always worked great for us! 🙂
would you say that the bag of carrots is a pound? I have a two pound bag and was wondering if I should double it
Leave out the black pepper and add a bit of cinnamon and a sprinkle of nutmeg. We always called them Candied Carrots.
Never tried adding cinnamon or nutmeg but it sounds amazing!!
What sized bag of carrots did you use?
Thanks!
I made these tonight on a random whim (after finding them on Pinterest) and they were so good! I have never had brown sugar carrots– to be honest, i’m not a big fan of carrots– but I think I’m going to start making these more often!
I just stumbled up on these on pintrest, my picky 3 & 4 year olds LOVED them, even went as far as asking for seconds and stealing them off my plate! We now have 4 veggies they like! Oh and the hubs and I thought they where pretty amazing too!
I LOVE hearing that!! My kiddos like them too and I feel like I could eat them every night – they’re my favorite!!
I love this recipe and I always use it for thanksgiving and Christmas, but I use 1 bay leaf and no salt or pepper and they’re a huge hit!
Oooh, great suggestion! Will have to try it with a bay leaf. Thx!
Tried these last night and they were awesome! I left the salt and pepper out. Thank you so much for sharing!!!
Butter and carrots are such a natural combination, yum! And this is a great pull-it-out of the fridge recipe since no peeling is needed, great for when you need a quick veggie on the table!
This is a great recipe and the best way to cook carrots!

Do you think these could be done in a small slow cooker?
Hi Erin! I would think a slow cooker would work, but not sure of the temp and the length to cook. If you try it out and find a good version for it, let me know. 🙂
Love this idea! I will be trying this, I just bought a bunch of carrots and wasn’t quite sure how to prepare them. Yum!
I made these just this weekend when my boyfriend’s parents were visiting, and they were a huge hit! 😀 Thanks a lot for the great and easy recipe! From now on I will make my carrots always like that, loved it!
Brown sugar carrots has to be one of my very favorite side dishes. My Mom made a version of these when I was growing up and I love them! I will definitely give this a try 🙂
Super delicious!! My family will loves these!! Thanks for the recipe!!
Haha, I made carrots just yesterday and was aiming for the same effect, but wasn’t sure how to get to that result and used honey instead… Not bad either, but I think the next time I will go with brown sugar 😉
Thanks for that! Take care 🙂
I like this new way to have carrots. Thanks for sharing! (=
Yes, what size? 1 lb?
16oz ????
The first ingredient in the recipe says a 16 oz bag of baby carrots. That equals one pound.
Thanks!
Cooked my carrots using stove top method. Easy, please. Took total of 20 minutes and they were tender, hint of sweet taste. Thanks for the recipe. The stove top method was the fastest way to cook these carrots, compared to oven and crock pot.
