Frozen Hot Chocolate only takes 3 ingredients and a few minutes to make! Top it off with whipped cream and chocolate curls for a real treat.
There are so many ways to enjoy hot chocolate besides the traditional way! We love Mexican Hot Chocolate with a little spice to it, Mint Hot Chocolate, and this Frozen Hot Chocolate!

A New-Found Favorite
I LOVE HOT COCOA!! It’s been a favorite for years and years, like many of you, I’m sure. This year I was introduced to Frozen Hot Chocolate, and I’m still trying to debate which one I like more! They are both SO delicious and chocolate-y it’s hard to pick a favorite.
I had heard about Frozen Hot Cocoa for years but just tried it for the first time a few months ago when I made this recipe. It was a hit with the family and reminded me of a more water-y frosty from Wendy’s. YUM!!
My love for Frozen Hot Cocoa grew even more when the hubby and I visited the restaurant, Serendipity, in NYC in October. We had gone to New York to celebrate our 10 year anniversary and made sure to go to the famous restaurant to get the delicious, frozen drink. You can see from my picture below that I was a bit excited to try it. 😉
If you love hot cocoa but want to change things up and make a frozen version, then you’ll love this recipe. Only 3 ingredients are required and then it’s optional to top it off with whipped cream and chocolate curls. Either way, you’ll love this chocolate-y beverage and it’s sure to become a new favorite. 😉

How to make Frozen Hot Chocolate
All it takes is 3 ingredients and about 5 minutes to whip up this tasty treat!
BLEND & SERVE. Place milk, cocoa mix and ice in a blender. Blend until mostly smooth. Pour into a glass and top with whipped cream and chocolate curls.
How to get chocolate curls: The easiest way I like to get chocolate curls is to use a hershey bar and a potato peeler. If the chocolate is too cool/hard then it will flake off instead of curl so be sure that it is room temperature.
Chocolate Packet: If your grocery store doesn’t carry hot chocolate packets, you can use hot chocolate from a canister. One packet is about 2 ½ tbsp chocolate mix.
You can also make your own hot chocolate powder using:
- ½ c powdered milk
- ½ c unsweetened cocoa powder
- ¾ c powdered sugar
- ¼ tsp salt
Whisk all the ingredients together and store in an airtight container. Use as you would any other hot chocolate powder.

Storing
Storage: Like soft serve ice cream or milk shakes this treat doesn’t store very well so I suggest making what you’ll consume.
If by chance you do have leftovers, you can place them in the fridge for a couple hours, or in the freezer for a week or so. To revive let thaw, if frozen, and reblend.

Just amazing!
First frozen hot chocolate I had was in Vegas. This rivals that. Thanks for the recipe and making my chocolate loving husband happy!
Perfect for Arizona winters!
Made it for my wife and I last night and we both loved it!!!!! I made the whipped cream in a mixer to top it off and added the chocolate curls. Next time I’ll have to frost the glasses ahead of time, but really didn’t need to. My wife had some metal straws and that was an added bonus. Next time, I will be halving the whipped cream recipe, a lot left over. So, hats off to the chef on this one, we indeed loved it!!! Just an FYI, really love it when you include a video of how you made something, it helps kind of answer some questions I might have had otherwise. Keep the recipes coming!!! Oh, how long can that whipped cream I made last in the fridge covered up?
I’m so glad you and your wife loved this recipe so much. That makes me so happy to hear! I am definitely working on creating more videos of my recipes to post so stay tuned. Homemade whipped cream lasts about 3-4 days in the fridge. Thanks so much for sharing!
If I were using regular cocoa from a can, what would be the measurement of cocoa and the sugar measurement for the Frozen Hot Chocolate recipe, please and thank you.
I have actually never tried it that way, so I’m not quite sure. You may be able to find some recipes on Google for a good ratio of cocoa powder to sugar to create a homemade hot cocoa powder. Then just use that powder with the rest of this recipe. You’ll have to let us know how it turns out if you give it a try that way! 🙂
I have not tried the recipe yet but I will make this recipe and I know I’m gonna enjoy it because you made it. I love your recipes. You could just put random stuff in a pan and you’ll make it good. I looked up on google frozen hot chocolate and I saw you had a very high rating so I knew it had to be good, so then I went to see the comments! Girl, for sure I’m making this. Great job!
That’s so sweet of you to say! Thank you so much!! I hope you like it!
