Did you forget to thaw your ground beef for dinner? We have done this more times than we’d like to admit, but we have the SIMPLEST solution!!!

Enter the instant pot (our best friend). Instant pot ground beef will take you from frozen meat cubes to flavorful, cooked ground beef in under 40 minutes (with only 5 minutes of prep)! That sure beats the hours of thaw time AND can save you in a pinch. Simply add it to your favorite recipes like Spaghetti, Taco Casserole or Goulash for your next dinner.

Ingredients

  • 2-4 pounds frozen ground beef – or frozen ground chicken, ground turkey, or ground pork
  • 1 cup beef broth – or beef stock
  • optional spices – Depending on what you want to use the ground beef to make, will determine what spices to add. Try Taco Seasoning, minced garlic, salt and pepper, onion, chili powder, or cayenne pepper.

How to Make Instant Pot Ground Beef

  1. PREP. Add 2-4 pounds of frozen ground beef to the Instant Pot. Pour 1 cup of beef broth over the top of the frozen meat.
  2. COOK. Cover the Instant Pot with the lid, and make sure that the switch on the top is set to seal.
    • Cook at high pressure for 22 minutes, let naturally release for 10 minutes, then quick pressure release.
    • Break the ground beef up into pieces using a wooden spoon. Drain the excess grease from the ground beef, then store until ready to use.

To Use Fresh Beef

The directions above are for frozen beef. If using fresh ground beef, reduce the cooking time to 15 minutes.

  • Add the ground beef to the Instant Pot. Pour the broth over the top.
  • Cover the Instant Pot, and make sure that the switch on the top is set to seal.
  • Cook at high pressure for 22 minutes, let naturally release for 10 minutes, then manually release the pressure.
  • Break the ground beef up into pieces using a wooden spoon. Drain the ground beef, then store until ready to use.

Notes

Cook fresh beef, not frozen, for 15 minutes.

Store cooked ground beef can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days or freezer for 3-4 months.
