Why we think you’ll love it:

  • Save for later. This casserole is perfect for a freezer meal for busy nights.
  • Family friendly. A dinner everyone loves, even picky eaters. My kids gobble this stuff up!!
  • Creamy, not dry. The condensed soup keeps the beef layer saucy and flavorful while it bakes.
  • Crispy topping guaranteed. Frozen tater tots bake up golden on top while the filling stays hot and tender underneath.

Hamburger Tater Tot Casserole Ingredients

  • Ground beef (1 pound): Provides a hearty, flavorful base for the casserole. Use lean ground beef or 80/20 ground beef beef. Drain excess fat. Use ground chicken or ground turkey in place of ground beef.
  • Garlic salt and pepper (to taste): Seasons the beef and enhance the overall flavor.
  • Condensed cream of chicken mushroom soup (1 ten point seventy five ounce can): Creates a creamy sauce that brings all the layers together. If you cannot find the combo, use 1 can of cream of chicken soup OR 1 can of cream of mushroom soup.
  • Shredded cheddar cheese (2 cups): Adds rich, melty flavor and helps bind the casserole.
  • Fresh green beans chopped (1ยฝ cups): Adds texture, color, and a bit of freshness to balance the dish. If using frozen green beans, thaw them first.
  • Corn drained (1 fifteen point twenty five ounce can): Adds sweetness and pairs well with the savory beef.
  • Frozen tater tots (1 twenty four to thirty two ounce package): Forms the crispy, golden topping that makes this casserole so fun and satisfying. Optional: double the amount of tots. Add a layer of tater tots at the bottom of the pan before adding the other layers and a second layer of tots on top.

Do you need two cans of soup, one chicken and one mushroom, or one that is chicken and mushroom? Thank you!

    1. Lil' Luna Team says:

My grocery store sells a can of “cream of chicken and mushroom”, but if yours doesn’t sell that combination you can use a can of cream of chicken or a can of cream of mushroom soup.

This was a winner with my guys! I added chopped onions to the organic, grass fed, hamburger to up the nutrition content, as always, and used mushroom soup, since that is what I had in my pantry. I also added a TBS of Worcestershire sauce. The corn and green bean additions added texture, nutrition and flavor. My husband said this is the best version of this casserole he has ever had. I’m going to attempt to make my own “homemade” mushroom/cx soup next time. We really enjoyed it, Thanks!

Ingredients are everything! My mother made a version of this that I dreaded growing up. Ive always avoided it, but then to be polite I tried some at my SIL house and was pleasantly surprised. Enough to request this recipe.
