Nutella + Brownies = LOVE!

We are huge fans of Nutella at our home! The kids eat it any way they can, and we love to sneak into some of our favorite desserts!

We did this with brownies to make Nutella brownies and holy moly – they’re incredibly delicious, fudgy and addicting. If you are a fan of the scrumptious hazelnut spread, you will definitely fall in love with these brownies.

Other favorites include: Buckeye Brownies and Cheesecake Brownies.

Why We Love It:

  • Simple recipe. This recipe is made in 30 minutes making it a go-to brownie recipe.
  • Flavor and texture. The fudgy, rich, and creamy texture melts in your mouth.
  • Make ahead of time. Brownies can be frozen for up to 3 months, perfect for saving for later.

Ingredients

BROWNIE LAYER

  • 6 tablespoons butter Melted butter gives moisture, but not too much lift, creating fudgy brownies and making them more dense than fluffy.
  • 4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips or chunks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 whole eggs
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder Use normal unsweetened cocoa, dutch process cocoa, or dark chocolate cocoa.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon baking powder

CREAM + NUTELLA LAYER

  • 6 ounces cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup Nutella®– or a similar brand of chocolate hazelnut spread
    • Plus 3 tablespoons Nutella for the top

How to make Nutella Brownies

  1. PREP. Preheat oven to 350°F and line a 9 x 9 baking dish with parchment paper.
  2. BROWNIE BATTER. Add butter and semisweet chocolate to a saucepan and heat over low heat, stirring constantly, until melted and smooth. Remove from heat and stir in the sugar and vanilla.
    • Add the eggs one at a time, stirring after each addition. Add the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  3. BAKE. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan and bake for 10 minutes.
  4. CHEESECAKE MIXTURE. Beat the cream cheese with the sugar and flour until well blended.
    • Add the egg, heavy cream, sour cream, and vanilla, and mix until well combined. Add the Nutella and mix until smooth.
  5. LAYER. After the brownie batter has baked for 10 minutes, remove it from the oven and pour the cheesecake mixture over the top of the brownie batter, spreading evenly.
  6. NUTELLA. Heat the 3 tablespoons of Nutella in the microwave until warmed (about 30 seconds). Drizzle the Nutella over the top of the cheesecake mixture, and use a toothpick to swirl it throughout the batter.
  7. BAKE. Bake 35-40 minutes, until the cheesecake is set and only jiggles slightly when the pan is shaken gently. Let cool completely before slicing and serving.

    Recipe Tips + FAQ

    • VARIATIONS.
      • add chocolate chips to the brownie batter
      • top with festive holiday sprinkles
      • sprinkle the top with a bit of sea salt
    • STORE. I store them in the fridge because I love cold fudgy brownies. Keep brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for 2-3 days. They are good for even longer. If needed, separate layers with wax or parchment paper.
    • MAKE AHEAD OF TIME. Allow the brownies to cool and set. Separate layers with parchment paper and place in an airtight freezer-safe container. Freeze for up to 3 months.
