Bites of Deliciousness

Steak bites are little morsels of tasty meat marinated in garlic and steak sauce with amped-up flavor for a juicy bite every time!

We love to eat these as an appetizer (think Meatballs), but they are also tasty when served alongside your favorite starch or veggie.

The best part is really all you need to do is mix up the sauce and marinate. Cook them up in minutes and enjoy – they’ll disappear in a blink!

How to Make Steak Bites

MARINADE. Add all ingredients, minus the steak, to a bowl and stir to combine. Pour into a large Ziploc bag.

Add steak pieces and seal the bag. Gently shake the bag to coat the pieces and place them in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours or overnight.

COOK. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Remove steak pieces from the marinade using a slotted spoon and place in the skillet.

Cook for 6-9 minutes or until they are cooked to your preference.

How Long to Marinate

Marinating steak helps to tenderize as well as add flavor to the meat.

  • Minimum. Any amount of marinating time makes difference, but a good time frame is 6-8 hours.
  • Maximum. You can marinate them longer but no more than 24 hours.
  • Freeze for later. If desired, freeze the meat in the steak bites marinade. Let them thaw in the fridge before cooking.

Ingredient Tips

To cook up the most tender and delicious steak you need to be aware of the type you buy, how to prepare it, and how to cook it correctly.

If you don’t keep these aspects in mind your efforts can easily yield a chewy and tough steak. First, choose the best steak for steak bites.

Choose a tender cut of beef. A cut that contains fewer connective tissues and is a bit fatter tends to be more tender, especially when cooking them up in bite-sized portions. Some choices in this category include top sirloin, filet mignon, tenderloin, porterhouse, t-bone, and ribeye.

  • Prime beef is the best and contains well-marbled fat. You will typically need to visit a butcher shop to find this type.
  • Choice beef is the next step down. It has a decent amount of marbling and it is the type that most grocery stores carry.
  • Select beef does not have a very good marbling of fat it will generally cook up tough and dry.

Store the raw beef properly. Meat loses moisture the older it gets which makes it less tender. Fresh meat, which has never been frozen, is the most tender and moist.

  • If not going to cook it right away, place it directly in the fridge. Fresh meat can stay in the fridge for 3-5 days.
  • To store them longer, then go ahead and freeze them. Be sure to wrap them tightly to avoid freezer burns. They are best when used within 4 months, but can last for up to 12 months in the freezer.

Cooking Tips

Make your perfect steak bites recipe by using these simple tips.

Best way to cut even cubes. Cut against the grain and slice the entire steak into even strips. Then cut each strip down into smaller cubes.

Stick to pieces that are about 1-inch cubes. It’s important that they are all the same size so that they cook evenly.

A large cast iron skillet is my recommendation when fast-cooking a steak. It will heat up hot and evenly.

A really hot skillet will create a golden brown crust on the outside of eat steak bite without overcooking the center.

  • Don’t crowd the pan. Depending on the number of steak bites and the size of your skillet you may need to cook in batches.
  • Don’t overcook. Take them out of the pan when they are seared and on the verge of cooking all the way through.

Let them rest. It is important to give the cooked steak a few minutes to rest after it has been removed from the pan. This will help all the juices redistribute inside and create deliciously moist morsels.

Another reason is that the internal temperature will rise those final few more degrees and produce the best cook.
