Easy Witch Hat Cookies are a perfectly spooky Halloween treat. Kids will love making and eating these cute creations!
Witch Hat Cookies whip up in minutes, and are a perfect Halloween party activity! Kids will also enjoy Gummy Worm Jell-O Cups and Boo-nilla Ghost Milkshakes!
Made in minutes!
Now this is easy peasy! Witch Hat Cookies are quite possibly the easiest cookie recipe I have ever made.
No busting out the stand mixer, no scooping cookie dough, no heating up the oven and baking batches, no cooling on a wire rack.
Make Witch Hat Cookies ahead of time to serve at a party, or even include it as an easy Halloween activity for kids to do during a party.
How to make witch hat cookies
ASSEMBLE. Using the icing, attach an unwrapped Hershey Kiss onto the top center of each fudge covered Oreo.
DECORATE. To decorate, ice a line around each Hershey Kiss (so the icing is visible) and cover with Halloween sprinkles. (I used black and orange nonpareils).
the cookie base
Keebler Fudge Stripe Cookies. This cookie is a great alternative to Fudge Covered Oreos. To get uniform, dark witch hats:
- Place the Keebler cookie with the striped side facing down and the fully dipped side facing up.
- Use frosting/icing to stick the Hershey Kiss onto the cookie, so that it covers the center hole.
- Finish decorating the hat as directed.
Fudge Covered Oreos are the perfect choice for these cookies, since they are ready to use. If you want to use a different flavor of Oreo, gluten free Oreo cookies, or simply can’t find fudge covered Oreos, then you can easily cover your Oreo of choice with melted chocolate candy coating.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- In a saucepan, over LOW heat, melt the candy coating making sure to stir constantly. Remove from heat.
- Use a fork to dip each Oreo into the chocolate. Cover completely, then gently tap the fork against the side of the bowl to remove any excess chocolate.
- Place the chocolate covered Oreo on a piece of parchment paper to cool. Place them in the freezer to help them cool and set faster.
Ingredient tips + variations
Icing. To keep these an easy, no effort treat, I bought a package of decorative icing writer tubes and used the green color. You could also use a tub of orange, green, or purple frosting.
Another idea is to buy, or make, Vanilla Buttercream Frosting and dye it with food coloring. If you do use frosting from a tub, or homemade frosting, I suggest using a piping bag to add a dollop of icing to each cookie.
Hershey Kisses. I liked how the plain Hershey Chocolate Kisses looked and tasted with the rest of the cookies, but you can use other kisses.
Flavor Creations. With just a bit of extra effort, you can make many different flavor combinations using different types of Oreos, and pairing it with a similarly flavored Hershey kiss. Just a few ideas include:
- Pumpkin Spice Hershey kisses and dip your own Pumpkin Spice Oreos
- Mint Kisses and dip Mint Oreos
- Lava Cake Kisses and dip Ultimate Chocolate Oreos
- Hot Chocolate Kisses and Chocolate Marshmallow Oreos
Halloween Sprinkles. I love the added color and look of the sprinkles. You can use any festive sprinkles like Halloween colored jimmies, sprinkle sequins, nonpareils or classic Halloween shaped sprinkles.
