Apple Enchilada Ingredients and Substitutions
- 1 (21-ounce) can apple pie filling – Leave the apple pie slices as they are, or cut the slices into smaller pieces to make the enchiladas easier to eat. You can use Homemade Apple pie filling, but make sure the filling has simmered long enough for the apples to become soft and for the sauce to thicken.
- 6 (8-inch) flour tortillas – We use store-bought flour tortillas to keep this dessert extra simple, but you can use whole wheat or Homemade Flour Tortillas.
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, or more to taste
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup packed brown sugar – Both light and dark brown sugar work.
- ½ cup water
- ⅓ cup butter – We use unsalted butter, but salted butter can also be used.
- cinnamon – or apple pie spice or Pumpkin Pie Spice
- optional toppings – Whipped Cream, Vanilla Ice Cream, or Caramel Sauce
