Spicy and sweet honey chicken is great to serve with rice or noodles. Add your favorite veggies to make it even better!

Honey chicken is one of our favorite quick & easy Asian entrees! We like to serve it with a side of Fried Rice and some Cream Cheese Wontons.

Sweet + Delicious!

We love Asian dishes for dinner, especially the ones with chicken.

This honey chicken recipe isn’t breaded and is heated up in a small amount of oil. With the flavors of honey and soy sauce, it has the perfect sweet and salty touch that everyone loves with Chinese food.

Why we love it:

  • Easy. With a quick prep, it’s simple for an Asian weeknight meal!
  • Tasty and light! With no breading and a tasty flavor with a little spice, this dish is healthier than other Asian dishes we make.
  • A perfect dinner. Enjoy it with white and brown rice (even Cauliflower Rice) or even Noodles or Chow Mein.

How to Make Honey Chicken

  1. CHICKEN. Cut chicken into bite-size pieces and season with some garlic salt & paprika
  2. SAUCE. In a small bowl, whisk together your honey, soy sauce, red pepper flakes, brown sugar, paprika, and garlic salt.
  3. COOK. Cook chicken pieces in a pan of hot oil and stir until lightly brown, about 5 minutes. Pour in the honey mixture and chopped broccoli and continue to cook and stir until the chicken is no longer pink and the sauce has thickened.
  4. SERVE. Serve over white or brown rice (or noodles).
  5. GARNISH. Top with sesame seeds and chopped green onion or chives.

Recipe Tips

  • Tender chicken. Soak the chicken pieces in buttermilk for a few hours before draining and using them in the recipe. The acid in the buttermilk will help tenderize the chicken making them tender, flavorful, and moist.
  • Add vegetables. Easily add in or replace the broccoli with some of your favorite veggies like bell peppers, snow peas, and carrots.
  • Gluten-free. This recipe is gluten-free. Many recipes coat chicken with flour before frying, but this recipe doesn’t.

    Hi KRisten,

Do we use fresh brocolli or frozen that we’ve already cooked ?

    1. Kristyn Merkley says:

I usually use fresh, but you can definitely use frozen, as well. I would just thaw it out & maybe squeeze the liquid out.

Question about the honey chicken recipe. It says to cook the chicken in hot oil and the add the honey mixture and brocolli. How much oil do you use and do you add the honey mixture to the hot oil with the chicken? I’m a little confused.

    1. Kristyn Merkley says:

You cook the chicken in the 1 1/2 Tablespoons of olive oil & yes, once you’ve cooked the chicken for a little bit, you add the honey mixture & broccoli & continue to cook. Hope that helps! Enjoy!

This was super delicious and so easy! I made it using pre-cooked and chopped frozen chicken and I just mixed the sauce and chicken all together and cooked at the same time – it turned out wonderful! I added a little bit of ground ginger as well. Very tasty!

    Hi Kristyn,
This looks delicious and I can’t wait to make it but when do you add the broccoli?
    Thanks!

    1. Kristyn Merkley says:

It’s in step two of the instructions 🙂 It’s about 5 minutes after cooking the chicken. Hope you love it, as much we do. Thank you!
