Ooey Gooey Treats To Love!

Who here loves LUCKY CHARMS?! It’s a cereal the whole family loves.

Honestly though, we love all treats, especially Rice Krispies Treats, so we combined these two loves to make Lucky Charms Treats – a new favorite dessert.

Why we love them:

  • Few Ingredients. This fun treat takes minutes to make with only a handful of ingredients.
  • Quick and Easy. Cereal treats are so simple that it’s a go-to easy dessert for kids to make.
  • Any day. This is a family favorite for St. Patrick’s Day but delicious snacking all year long!

Only 3 Ingredients

  • Lucky Charms Cereal General Mills will sometimes make an all-green St. Patrick’s Day version of their Lucky Charm Cereal which would be fun. Store-brand versions of this cereal also work in this recipe.
  • large (Jumbo) marshmallows 1 jumbo marshmallow = 13 mini marshmallows, 8 regular marshmallows = 1 cup, 50 mini marshmallows = ½ cup mini marshmallows, 5 regular marshmallows = ½ cup
  • butter I like unsalted butter, but you can use salted butter. Or try a dairy-free butter substitute.

How to Make Lucky Charms Treats

  1. PREP. Grease a 9×13 baking dish and set aside (or line the pan with wax or parchment paper). Begin by pouring your Lucky Charms into a large bowl.
  2. HEAT. Add large marshmallows to butter bowl and microwave for 2-3 minutes.
  3. SERVE. Stir the melted marshmallow mixture until creamy and pour over Lucky Charms. When all combined, pour the cereal mixture into the prepared pan. Let set and enjoy!

Stove Top Directions

Melt the butter in a large saucepan or pot over medium heat. Stir in the marshmallows and heat until gooey and smooth. Stir frequently so the mixture does not scorch on the bottom. Remove from heat, add to the cereal and mix.

Recipe Tips

  • Measure ingredients before starting. This Lucky Charms bars recipe is fairly quick and it’s easier to have everything ready to be added.
  • Gluten-free. According to the General Mills website, their Lucky Charms are gluten-free and marshmallows are naturally gluten-free.
  • Add a candy coating. Adding a green candy coating can add a festive element to this treat. Make the Lucky Charms Treats and allow them to set. Then, mix up the coating:
    • Place 8 ounces of almond-flavored candy coating or white chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Follow the melting instructions on the bag.
    • Add 2 to 3 drops of green food coloring and stir.
    • Dip the bottom of the treats into the coating or use the coating to drizzle over the tops. Place the treats on wax paper to set up.
  • Sprinkles. After the mixture has been pressed into the pan, but before it sets, top it off with festive sprinkles. Rainbow colors work, as do green or shamrock shapes sprinkles.
  • Shapes. Allow the gooey marshmallow treats to set before cutting shapes. Shamrock-shaped cookie cutters are particularly fun to use with this recipe.

Storing Info

  • STORE Lucky Charms marshmallow treats in an airtight container at room temperature. Separate cereal bars layers with wax, or parchment paper. They should easily stay soft for 2-3 days. They will begin to dry out after that but are still safe to eat.
  • FREEZE. Lucky Charms Rice Krispie treats are especially fun to toss in your kids’ lunch boxes or as an after school snack. After cutting, place each treat in a fold-top sandwich bag, then place them together in a freezer Ziploc. Store in the freezer for up to 3 months.

I made these last month to take to my dads for St. Patrick’s Day. They were really good and looked super fun.
I did press some in a 9 x 13 pan as well as a 9 inch pie dish so they weren’t quite as thick. And my daughters drizzled green white chocolate over the top.
