Why we think you’ll love it:
- Few Ingredients. Lucky Charms bars take 15 minutes to make with only 3 ingredients!
- Great for little helpers. Cereal treats are so simple that it’s a go-to easy dessert for kids to make.
- Any day. This is a family favorite for St. Patrick’s Day, but delicious snacking all year long!

Lucky Charms Rice Krispie Treats Ingredients
- Lucky Charms (11 – 12 cups) – Lucky Charms bring that classic crunch with pops of colorful marshmallow, giving the bars playful texture and extra sweetness. General Mills will sometimes make an all-green St. Patrick’s Day version of their Lucky Charm Cereal which would be fun. Store-brand versions of this cereal also work in this recipe.
- Large marshmallows (16 ounces) – Large marshmallows melt into the gooey binder that holds every piece together and keeps the bars soft. You can also use 16 ounces mini marshmallows.
- Butter (3 tablespoons) – Butter adds rich flavor and a silky finish, helping the melted marshmallows coat the cereal evenly. We like unsalted butter, but you can use salted butter or try a dairy-free butter substitute.
- vanilla extract, optional
How to Make Lucky Charms Treats

PREP. Grease a 9×13 baking dish with nonstick cooking spray and set aside (or line the pan with wax or a piece of parchment paper). Pour 11-12 cups of Lucky Charms marshmallows cereal into a large bowl.
HEAT. Add 16 ounces of large marshmallows and of butter to a large bowl and microwave for 2-3 minutes.
SERVE. Stir the melted marshmallow mixture until creamy (add vanilla extract here if adding) and pour over Lucky Charms. Use a rubber spatula to mix and evenly coat the cereal, then lightly press the cereal mixture into an even layer in the prepared pan. Let it set and enjoy!

Kristyn’s Recipe Tips
- You can use a large knife to cut cereal bars into squares or a large Shamrock-shaped cookie cutter.
- Stovetop. Melt the butter in a large pot over medium heat. Stir in the marshmallows and heat until gooey and smooth. Stir frequently so the mixture does not scorch on the bottom. Remove from heat, add to the cereal, and mix.
- According to the General Mills website, their Lucky Charms are gluten-free, and marshmallows are naturally gluten-free. *Always double-check labels.
- Dip in green candy coating. Melt 8 ounces of almond-flavored candy coating or white chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Follow the melting instructions on the bag. Add 2 to 3 drops of green food coloring and stir. Dip the bottom of each treat into the coating or use the coating to drizzle over the tops. Place the treats on wax paper to set up.

Rice Krispie treats and cereal. Great combination for a sweet treat!
I made these last month to take to my dads for St. Patrick’s Day. They were really good and looked super fun.
I did press some in a 9 x 13 pan as well as a 9 inch pie dish so they weren’t quite as thick. And my daughters drizzled green white chocolate over the top.
