our favorite mini Muffins
Today, I’m sharing a recipe for Mini Applesauce Muffins that were beyond delicious.
The taste of applesauce is subtle, but it made the muffins super moist and yummy. They’re also topped with cinnamon and sugar making them extra irresistible! They were really easy to make and I think everyone in your family will like them.
We like to make these mini muffins to enjoy for breakfast, or even as a snack – especially after school. The kids find themselves wanting them every week.
How to Make mini Applesauce Muffins
PREP. Preheat the oven and lightly spray the mini muffin pan with cooking spray and set aside.
BATTER. Cream the butter and sugar until they are well combined. Fold in the egg and applesauce. Combine the remaining dry ingredients in a separate bowl and mix. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix well to create a batter.
BAKE. Spoon the batter into the greased mini muffin pan, filling each about 2/3 full. Bake for 11-13 minutes.
TOPPING. Meanwhile, combine sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Melt the butter in another bowl. Let the muffins cool for a bit. Once they’ve cooled, dip the muffins into melted butter and then into the cinnamon and sugar mixture. ENJOY!
Recipe FAQ
Can margarine be used instead of butter in baking? Technically yes it can, but I would recommend not switching them. Butter is cream based where as margarine is oil based and flavored to taste like butter. When butter is substituted with margarine the end result isn’t quite the same.
What kind of applesauce is recommended? We used sweetened plain applesauce for this recipe. You can also use unsweetened applesauce or cinnamon applesauce. They wonโt really alter the flavor much or at all. If you are worried, you can add add an extra pinch of sugar if you used unsweetened applesauce. If you used cinnamon applesauce you can just reduce the amount of added cinnamon.
You can also used homemade applesauce!
Can I make these into regular sized muffins? Yes just adjust the bake time to 22-25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
How to store muffins
Room temperature: Store the cooled muffins in an airtight container for up to a week. Lay a paper towel on the bottom of the container add the muffins and lay a second paper towel over the top. The paper towel will absorb any evaporated moisture so the muffins don’t get a soggy texture. The airtight container keeps the air from getting in and drying them out too much.
To freeze: Allow the muffins to cool, arrange them in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze for 2-3 hours. Once frozen transfer them to a ziplock bag and freeze for up to 3 months.

Hi,
Can anyone tell me if the applesauce muffins are suitable to freeze?
Thanks ๐
I personally haven’t tried, but I’m sure you can. Maybe just do the last step when you are about to eat them – the dipping in the butter and cinnamon/sugar mixture. Let me know how they turn out!
Delicious! We added a half a teaspoon of vanilla to this recipe. Amazing! Thank you.
My picky eater liked them, eventhough she doesn’t like apple sauce. A kid size cup is 4 oz or 1/2 a cup.
SO Glad she liked them!! ๐
Made these for — of course — the missionaries! They’re going to love them!!! Thanks again for all your good yummies!! It is a 5 star!!
LOL!! I love it, Donna!! So glad you liked these and I hope the missionaries did too. Looks like they’re being fed real well. ๐
What is the measure for kids size – have never heard I’d such a thing!! PLEASE give a measure
cheers S
1/2 cup. ๐
NO children here. So instead of buying cups for recipe, can someone please measure the amount of the applesauce in the cups and stop the questions. Thank you.
Is it one kids size applesauce snack cup? Or 1cup if applesauce?
I made these with 1 cup of applesauce and they did not turn out at all…try 1 applesauce kidsize cup! That makes so much more sense! ๐
Hi Beth! I updated the recipe. It’s suppose to be a kid-size applesauce cup. I assumed everyone would understand, but I should have been more clear. Sorry they did not turn out. ๐
Oh no worries at all! I just quickly glanced at the recipe! Made it again and they turned out picture perfect! Thanks Kristyn!
How much is a Kid-sized applesauce cup in ounces/cups?
I don’t have one handy to check, but it’s the little plastic ones you find in the store, in the pack. Hope that helps!
1 kid-sized applesauce. ๐
