The unique flavors of this sweet and spicy strawberry salsa pair perfectly with tortilla chips, tacos, or any Mexican dish!
Pair this salsa with homemade Tortilla Chips or our sweet Cinnamon Tortilla Chips!
We Love Sweet + Spicy!
We eat tons of Chips and salsa at our house! I love to pair this appetizer combo with all of our favorite Mexican dishes.
Most people love savory Homemade Salsa, but have you tried sweet salsa? More specifically, sweet salsa with homemade Cinnamon Chips?! Queue our favorite sweet and spicy strawberry salsa!
Why we love it:
- Surprising. The sweet strawberries pair perfectly with spicy jalapeños, creating an unexpected and flavorful twist on traditional salsa.
- The versatility makes it a hit. Serve as a topping for tacos or as a standalone Mexican appetizer – it’s a great snack or addition to any Mexican dinner.
- Vibrant colors. With fresh produce and bright colors, it’s eye-catching and delicious!
- Ready in a jiffy. Whip this salsa up in about 10 minutes with just a handful of ingredients!
Ingredients
- fresh strawberries – Look for strawberries that are an even red from stem to tip with a sweet aroma. Do not use frozen strawberries as they will thaw and become mushy.
- grape tomatoes – or diced Roma tomatoes
- green onions – or red onions
- jalapeno peppers – For less heat, remove the seeds and white membrane. For more of a kick, leave them in, or use serrano peppers.
- lime zest – This How to Zest a Lemon post applies to limes as well.
- lime juice – One medium lime will yield about 2 tablespoons of juice.
- balsamic vinegar
- coarse salt
- black pepper
- fresh cilantro
How to make strawberry salsa
- PREP. Chop and slice all of the ingredients that need to be prepped.
- COMBINE. Mix until combined. Stir in the lime juice, balsamic vinegar, salt, and pepper. Add the chopped cilantro right before serving!
Recipe Tips
- Variations. Change it up with any of these ideas:
- sweeten with 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar or honey
- avocado
- a little orange juice or lemon juice
- Serving suggestions. My favorite pairing is Cinnamon and Sugar Tortilla Chips, or use plain Tortilla Chips or lime-flavored chips! Serve on top of Chicken Tacos, Chicken Quesadillas, grilled Huli Huli Chicken, Baked Salmon, or pork.
STORING Info
- STORE this strawberry salsa recipe in airtight containers in the fridge for about 5-6 days.
- FREEZE. I do not recommend freezing or canning this easy strawberry salsa recipe because the strawberries will become mushy.
