White Chocolate Puppy Chow (Muddy Buddies) made with white chocolate chips, instead of milk chocolate, makes for a tasty twist on a classic party treat!
I actually prefer desserts with white chocolate over regular chocolate! And this specific treat is great for parties and movie nights. For another white chocolate party treat, try our White Chocolate M&M Popcorn!
White Muddy Buddies!
Who here likes Puppy Chow (aka Muddy Buddies)?!
I know some of you call it Muddy Buddies as well, but either way, I’ve decided to change things up a bit and make a White Chocolate version of this addicting and easy treat. You guys all know how much I LOVE white chocolate, so I was a huge fan of how this turned out.
I took this to my moms for the nieces and nephews to try out as well, and they also loved it. I took a little home and tried to hide it from the kids but that didn’t work out too well. It was gone before I could even get to enjoy anymore myself. Go figure!
Bottom line, I found another quick and DELISH treat that we will be able to enjoy for Movie Night. ๐

How to Make It
CEREAL. Place 9 cups Chex Mix in a large bowl. Set aside.
COATING. Heat butter, peanut butter and white chocolate chips in a small pot on LOW, stirring constantly. Mix until all melted and well blended. Add vanilla and stir well.
COMBINE. Take off heat and pour over cereal. Toss so that most or all pieces are well coated.
SUGAR. Place 1ยฝ cups powdered sugar in a large ziploc bag. Pour cereal into the bag and shake until all the pieces are coated with powdered sugar.
Place in a bowl until ready to serve.
Tips when making puppy chow:
- You want the chex to be saucy so don’t add extra chex mix or there won’t be enough sauce for the powdered sugar to stick to. However, you can add extra powdered sugar to be able to coat all the pieces.
- Make sure to be gentle when mixing the cereal and chocolate peanut butter mix together so you donโt crush the cereal into little pieces
- Mix the chocolate and peanut butter together over low heat so everything melts completely and evenly. If it’s still really thick you can add in a drop or two of coconut oil to thin it out better.
- Use regular peanut butter instead of the natural kind because the added sugars will help everything stick together better.
Variations & Storage
Variations: This is a super yummy recipe all by itself, but you can easily add other treats to it such as holiday sprinkles, chocolate candies like reeses or M&Mโs, pretzel pieces and more.
Is this recipe gluten free? Good news this recipe is gluten free and is either corn or rice based. This recipe calls for 1 full box of chex mix, which is about 9 cups.
Keep puppy chow STORED in an airtight container. It can be kept at room temperature for 7-10 days or in the fridge up to 2 weeks. I really like it when it is chilled especially when I make it during the hot Arizona summer.
For longer storage you can store this in the freezer for 2-3 months. Just take it out of the freezer and leave it on the counter the night before you want to serve it. It is possible that some of the powdered sugar can fall off while being in the freezer, so you may want to toss it with more powdered sugar.
As mentioned, this recipe is super easy and doesn’t take long to make. It’s perfect for parties or any other get-togethers you may be having or attending.
