What is in pumpkin pie spice?

Pumpkin pie spice is 4 super rich spices combined into one!

  • ground cinnamon
  • ginger
  • clove
  • nutmeg

All of these spices are so good on their own, but when combined they are even BETTER! This homemade pumpkin spice recipe is essential to have on hand during the fall/Thanksgiving season.

It is used in tons of fall recipes. You can use it in classic pumpkin piepumpkin pancakes, pumpkin banana bread, and of course pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. Now I am craving all of those pumpkin treats!!

Pumpkin Spice sells out super quick this time of year in the grocery stores. Not only does it sell out fast, but it’s pretty expensive! Save yourself the headache and make your own at home! Really easy to do and a lot cheaper.

pumpkin spice Or ground Allspice

Pumpkin Pie Spice is a blend of different spices.

Allspice is a single ingredient that has the flavor profile of different spices. It is made from the dried, unripened berry of the myrtle pepper tree. The dried berry has a very unique flavor profile that is similar to many different spices- all the spices in one, allspice. Pumpkin Pie spice and allspice are often used interchangeably.

How to Make Pumpkin Pie Spice

Pumpkin spice is the easiest to whip up and have on hand all through the autumn season. You just need 4 spices and 5 minutes of your time. Doesn’t get much simpler than that!

COMBINE + STORE. Grab cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and ginger. Measure them out and add them to a bowl. Whisk all the spices together until well blended. Keep them in a container of your choice!

Storing info

STORE. I usually just keep a batch in a little plastic bag or glass jar and keep it airtight. You can also get a plastic or glass spice container and keep it in there.

Wherever you keep it, make sure to label this spice blend with the name and the date you made it, so you know what it is and how long it’s good for. This homemade pumpkin pie spice will stay good for up to 6 months.

Enjoy using your homemade pumpkin pie spice in all of your fall treats! Pretty much any recipe that calls for pumpkin will also likely call for pumpkin spice. 😉
