Marshmallow fluff takes this decadent Oreo Frosting to the next level with an added layer of flavor. It’s a fan favorite!!

Oreo Frosting is the perfect topping to our Cookies and Cream Cupcakes. It’s perfectly dippable along with our favorite Oreo Fluff and as binge-able as Cookies and Cream Popcorn.

Cookies and Cream Frosting

I am a HUGE fan of Oreo!! When we order shakes, blizzard, or most treats, I lean towards cookies and cream every time. That’s one reason I knew I had to create the perfect Oreo Frosting!

This frosting is the perfect topping for our Oreo Cupcakes, but can really be used on many of your favorite cakes or cupcakes. It would even make a yummy dip for graham crackers or fruit!

The best part is it’s crazy easy to whip up and is ALWAYS a big hit!

Making this Easy Oreo Frosting

WHIP. In a bowl or stand mixer, beat together the marshmallow fluff and butter until light and fluffy.

Add powdered sugar and vanilla and enough heavy cream to make it a smooth frosting that can be piped. Beat until light and fluffy.

OREO. Fold in finely crushed Oreos.

DECORATE. Pipe onto the cooled cupcakes (I used a jumbo round tip) and garnish with additional Oreos as desired.

Recipe Tips

  • Marshmallow Cream is a little different from marshmallow fluff, but if you can’t find fluff then you can use an equal amount of marshmallow cream. However, you cannot substitute fluff with melted marshmallows.
  • Crush the Oreos: The best way to get a fine Oreo crumb is to add the entire Oreo cookie to a food processor and pulse until you reach the desired consistency.  Do not remove the cream center. If you donโ€™t have a food processor, then you can place the Oreos in a Ziploc and use a kitchen mallet or a rolling pin to pound and crush the cookies.
  • Humidity and overly warm kitchens can affect the consistency. If it’s not thickening, try chilling it in the fridge.
  • How to Soften Butter Quickly: Be sure to use softened butter so that it mixes in correctly.
  • Egg allergy- Note that both marshmallow fluff and cream have egg whites in the ingredients.
  • Use a large piping tip to easily frost individual treats.

variations

Cookies and Cream frosting may be sold at your local market, but skip the premade stuff and easily make your own. One of my favorite parts of baking at home is I can change things up. I can add as much or as little Oreo crumbs as I wish. I can make the frosting thick or thin. I can even change up the flavors.

  • Consistency: To thicken the frosting slowly add more powdered sugar. To thin it out, simply add a bit more milk.
  • Use other Flavors: Oreos come in many different flavors such as Birthday Cake, Mint, Churro, Double Chocolate, Peanut Butter, Red Velvet, Golden, Gingerbread,  Carrot Cake, Apple Cider and more. You can even buy gluten free Oreos.

Storing Info

STORE leftover Oreo Buttercream Frosting in an airtight container. It should last several days in the refrigerator.

FREEZE for up to 3 months. It may not have quite the same texture as the freshly made frosting, but it will still be delicious and spreadable. A freezer Ziploc bag would work best for freezing as you can squeeze out excess air.
