a Holiday Treat to share

Around the holidays we like to have friends and family over and we are always thinking of yummy and festive treats to make. My family loves trifles, so I thought a Peppermint Cream Brownie Trifle would be perfect!!

I’m happy to say that the entire family enjoyed this treat and the kids especially loved the combination of peppermint and chocolate.

There are layers of brownie pieces and peppermint cream and it’s all topped with crushed candy canes. If you want an even softer topping you can use Andes Peppermint Crunch Pieces which are great too!!

Bottom line this is a simple and delicious dessert that looks so beautiful layered in a mason jar or goblet. If you use mason jars, you can even add some twine and maybe a small bell to adorn the top. No matter what you do, this treat is sure to be a hit with those that try it!

Making peppermint Brownie trifle

BROWNIES. Make brownies as directed on box. Let cool and cut into small squares.

CREAM CHEESE. In a bowl, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Mix in powdered sugar and fold in whipped topping. Set aside.

PUDDING. In a separate bowl mix pudding, milk, vanilla, peppermint and pink food coloring. Fold this mixture in with the cream cheese mixture. Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes.

LAYER. Right before serving, layer brownies and cream mixture. Top with crushed candy canes and serve immediately. ENJOY!

Tips, Variations + SToring Info

An easy beautiful way to add the pudding mixture is to pipe it on using a large round tip. If you don’t have a piping set, simply use a gallon size Ziploc bag with one bottom corner snipped off.

Variations:

  • Use your favorite homemade brownie recipe. If you’re short on time you can easily buy premade brownies from the local bakery.
  • Use chocolate cake cubes
  • Have fun with Christmas colors. For example: use green food coloring and top with candy canes and red and green sprinkles.
  • Serve in a large trifle dish instead of individual cups
  • Add in chocolate syrup
  • Use cheesecake flavored pudding mix

Assemble the trifles up to a day before serving and store them covered in the fridge. Any further than that and the brownies can become soggy and pudding may lose some of its texture. If you need to prep further in advance I suggest storing the prepared ingredients separately until it’s time to assemble the trifle.

STORE leftovers covered in the fridge for up to 3 days.

The peppermint cream is delicious and I’d eat it without the brownie! The finished trifle is also yummy and so pretty.
I use the 8oz clear drinking cups-not quite as pretty as your glasses, but great to serve to kids and they can just be thrown away after.

I know this is an older post…wondering if this recipe will fill a trifle dish? Not sure of their serving size basked on the recipe posted…

    1. Lil'Luna Team says:

Yes, you could definitely use a trifle dish rather than individual trifles.
