The holidays are the perfect time to get creative in the kitchen, especially when you have a house full of kiddos.

One of our favorite appetizers to make is this Christmas Veggie Tree that is cute and festive and party perfection.

How to assemble

  1. VEGGIES. Begin by rinsing all veggies and chopping up the broccoli, celery and bell peppers.
  2. ASSEMBLE. Wrap the Styrofoam cone with a double layer of plastic wrap. Starting at the base of the cone, insert toothpicks into the cone, then attach vegetables. Place one toothpick on top. Cut a star out of the cheese using a mini cookie cutter or a knife. Carefully place on top.
  3. SERVE. Arrange whatever vegetables or crackers you want at the base of the tree. Serve with the bacon ranch cheese ball or your favorite dip.

Change it Up

  • Mix cauliflower florets in with the broccoli. You can also make an all white Christmas Tree using only cauliflower. 
  • Instead of placing the extra vegetables at the base of the tree you can use some of them to decorate the three with. 
  • Add in your favorite veggies like radishes, cocktail onions, carrots and more.

Serving + Storing

SERVING TIP: I’ve been to parties where the food looks too pretty to eat and no one wants to be the person to take that first piece. This tree is one of those dishes. When the party starts, break the ice and remove one of the broccoli florets as a sign to guests that they can enjoy the veggie tree as well. 

STORE this in different ways depending on what stage you are in.

  • Prep: You can get all the veggies prepped  up to 48 hours in advance. Keep the different elements in separate Ziplocs on the fridge.
  • Assembled: You can assemble the tree a few hours before serving. Wrap the tree with plastic wrap and keep it in the fridge. (Make sure your shelves are high enough to accommodate the tree) 
  • Leftovers: You can either disassemble the tree and store the different elements in their own storage containers,  or keep it as is and wrap it in plastic.

Christmas Vegetable Tree

This Veggie Christmas Tree is sure to be a show stopper! It is tasty, impressive, and oh so festive.

Equipment

  • 8-10 inch styrofoam craft cone
  • plastic wrap
  • toothpicks

Ingredients 

  • 4 heads broccoli med-large heads
  • 1 medium carton cherry tomatoes
  • 1 slice cheddar cheese 1/4 inch thick
  • celery, bell peppers, carrots optional

Instructions 

  • Rinse all veggies and chop up the broccoli into florets. Cut the celery and slice the bell peppers if you are using them.
  • Wrap the styrofoam cone with a double layer of plastic wrap. Starting at the base of the cone insert toothpicks into the cone and attach a row of broccoli. Continue inserting toothpicks adding rows of broccoli and cherry tomatoes until you reach the top of the cone.
  • Place one toothpick in the very top of the cone. Cut a star out of the cheese using a mini cookie cutter or a knife. Carefully slide it onto the toothpick on the top.
  • Arrange the bell peppers, celery. carrots, other vegetables or crackers that you choose to use around the base of the tree. Serve with the bacon ranch cheese ball or your favorite Dip.
