Banana Waffles are filled with fresh banana puree for a naturally sweet flavor. This kid-friendly breakfast whips up in only 15 minutes!!
Sweet Banana Waffles are a filling breakfast on their own. If you need a little more, they pair perfectly with a side of Scrambled Eggs and some Bacon Cooked in the Oven.
Naturally Sweet!
We LOVE breakfast food. We love it so much that on a weekly basis we serve up breakfast for dinner. With such busy mornings, and no time for elaborate meals, we have to whip up our favorites in the evening.
This is a win-win in our books, because it’s never too late for a plate of pancakes or a breakfast casserole!
Hubby loves him some waffles, so that is a staple in our house. While we love our buttermilk waffles, it’s fun to mix things up.
I thought I’d add some natural sweetness by mashing up bananas and adding them in the batter. The result was this batch of luscious Banana Waffles. They are borderline banana bread, part waffle, and all good!
How to make banana Waffles
PREP. Preheat waffle iron
DRY INGREDIENTS. Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, nutmeg and cinnamon in a large mixing bowl.
WET INGREDIENTS. Whisk in milk, egg, vanilla extract, and mashed bananas and stir until just incorporated (you don’t want to over-mix).
COOK + SERVE. Pour batter onto greased waffle iron and cook until golden. Serve warm.
Favorite Toppings
The Banana Waffles are absolutely delicious and can easily be eaten without any toppings at all. Of course should you want to add some extra delicious flavors here are some favorites:

- sliced fruit
- peanut butter
- Nutella
- honey
- flavored jams
TIPS + FAQ
Waffle Tip: The less you fuss with the batter the fluffier your waffles will be! I always let my batter sit for a few minutes to thicken before I make the waffles.
- Be sure you mix the dry ingredients separately as directed in the instructions.
- Don’t over mix. Its ok if the batter has a few lumps.
How to freeze? Freeze these waffles to be enjoyed later whether you make ahead of time or have leftovers. Place the cooked waffles on a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Freeze until frozen (about 2 hours). Then, put them in an airtight freezer safe container. I usually use a Freezer Ziploc bag. The waffles will stay good for up to 4 months.
How to store? Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days.
How to reheat? To reheat refrigerated or frozen waffles, preheat oven or toaster oven to 350 degrees F and bake for 10-15 minutes or until hot. You can also heat them up in a toaster or the microwave.

Loved these! Used the 1/8 tsp and 1 tsp cinnamon suggestion. We thought these tasted like french toast waffles. Yum!
Perfect!! Really loved these. Only things I changed were from review feedback saying to up the cinnamon and nutmeg. I use 1 t Ceylon cinnamon and 1/8 tsp nutmeg. I also used freshly milled soft wheat flour for the batter. When my waffle maker gummed up I cooked the rest as pancakes and they were still amazing.
Yummy
These exceeded my expectations! So delicious. The only thing I did different was add extra cinnamon and nutmeg to the mix. Will be making these again and again.
Oh that makes me so happy to hear!! So glad you enjoyed the waffles!
I used just one banana and used coconut oil to grease the waffle iron. Delish!
Too much baking soda for us, they turned out rather fishy.
It calls for baking powder, not soda… maybe that was the issue?
There isn’t any baking soda in the recipe. The recipe calls for baking powder. That might have been the problem.
These are coming out so well (currently cooking my 4th one) so im not sure where the bad reviews are coming from maybe im using a revised recipe but this recipe is perfect! Thank you! Will def make these again 🙂
Came out delicious. Both my 11 month old and 23 month old enjoyed it. I did reduce the sugar amount to just a pinch since the bananas were pretty sweet. I also added in some oil. Came out perfect. Thank you 💙
You’re welcome!!
Made it with whole wheat flour, brown sugar and almond milk. Was delicious 😋.
Can you make this the night before.
I typically like to make them right after mixing the batter, so the baking powder is fresh and activated. It helps make them fluffy. You can definitely try making the batter the night before. These waffles store and reheat well too, so you could also cook the waffles and then save in an airtight container in the fridge. Reheat in the toaster or in the oven at 350 for about 10 minutes.
Came out so soggy! I didn’t undercook it.. the color was brown but I think this is too watery
Thanks for the feedback and for giving the recipe a try. Sorry to hear they didn’t quite turn out for you.
