We Love Christmas Baking!!

When it’s Christmas time – let the baking begin! We love making festive treats this time of year, so that’s exactly what we did. We made some Brownies and turned them into the cutest Christmas tree brownies.

Why we love them:

  • Quick. Because we use a box mix to make these Christmas brownies they are quick!
  • Easy. The kids love helping with this recipe and it’s perfect for a warm family night in!
  • Flavor. If you love fudgy brownies then you need to try this recipe.
Mixing brownie batter in a white bowl.

Ingredients

  • box brownie mix – The ingredients listed on the box typically include water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Or use a favorite Fudgy Brownie or Homemade brownie recipe
  • vanilla frosting – or make homemade Vanilla Buttercream Frosting mixed with food coloring.
  • green food coloring
  • sprinkles
  • candy canes – or straight peppermint sticks.

Just Bake + Decorate!

  1. PREP. Line a 9×9 brownie pan with foil then coat with cooking spray.
  2. BROWNIES. In a large bowl, prepare the brownie mix as directed on the box, pour batter into prepared pan and bake as directed. Cool then remove from pan.
  3. SHAPE + DECORATE! Cut into three equal strips and then cut triangles.
    • Cut candy canes into about 2″ pieces and place in the end of the triangle brownie.
    • Mix ½ can of frosting with green food coloring (about 20-25 drops of green food coloring).
    • Place in a small baggie and snip end. Ice on brownies as shown. Sprinkle as desired.

Recipe Tips

  • Candy cane stump. Break the hook off the top of each candy cane and insert the straight long pieces to make the tree stumps.
  • Piping. Use a piping bag to apply the frosting. The different tips will allow you to control the thickness and shape.
    • If you don’t have a piping set you can use a Ziploc bag. Simply add the frosting to the bag and twist the top. Snip one corner according to the size you want the frosting to be and decorate away.
  • Mix-ins. Add extra mix-ins to the brownie layer if you wish such as chopped nuts or chocolate chips.
  • Clean cuts. The cleanest way to cut each tree shape is to use a plastic knife. It will slice right through the brownies like butter. Be sure the brownies are warm but not hot or the heat will begin melting the knife.

This holiday dessert is perfect for cookie exchanges! Decorate them in a variety of ways to make them even more fun.

  • Top with colored M&M’s or Skittles.
  • Sprinkle on crushed candy canes.
  • Use spiced red hots.
  • Decorate with colored sprinkles or nonpareils.
  • Pipe on mint-flavored frosting.
