Well HELLO there! I’m Heather; most days you can find me blogging at French Press, where I share family friendly meals and snacks. But today, I cannot begin to explain how excited I am to be guest posting for Kristyn! While Kristyn is enjoying family time with her precious new addition, we’re getting you ready for the holiday season. Yes, it’s that time of year already.
That special time of year when money and time just never seem to go far enough. Gift giving can be stressful to say the least, but it really doesn’t have to be. Homemade gifts have become one of my families favorite traditions. Stella and I make a HUGE batch of cinnamon rolls for our neighbors. We knit scarves or headbands, make lip gloss for all our cousins, and we love making gift jars for teachers and coaches. The last few years we’ve done mulling spices. Perfect for wine, cider, and I even love using the spices for fragrance simmering in a pot on the stove. It makes the house smell amazing.
And they could not be any easier to make.
You will need:
oranges, ½ per bundle {I use clementines}
cinnamon stick {2 per bundle}
whole nutmeg {1 per bundle}
star anise { 4 per bundle}
cardamom pods {5 per bundle}
whole cloves {1 tsp per bundle}
cheesecloth, cut in 8×8 squares bakers twine mason jars
The orange slices need to dehydrate – to do this I cut them into slices, and lay them on parchment paper placed in the oven, overnight; leaving the light on will provide enough warmth to dry the slices I place enough spices for three bundles in each jar, along with twine and three squares of cheesecloth. To mull cider, or wine, place ⅓ of the spices in the center of the cheesecloth, tie up with the twine, and simmer in 1 bottle of cider. {attach the directions to the back of the gift tag}
Thanks so much to Kristyn, for allowing me to share with you today.
Happy Gifting everyone.

Thank you so much, friend! XO
Did I do something wrong with the oranges? Mine took forever to dry and turned brown by the time they were dry. Are they not supposed to be completely dry…won’t they mold if they are not dry? Is there a tag available for the spice jar or do we do our own? Thanks so much…I’m doing 12 of them. I like doing in bulk but it did get a bit “spendy” by the time I had everything together…but I love them.
