Okay, we LOVE Harry Potter at the Merkley home. So, of course, we enjoy Butterbeer and this lesser-known pumpkin juice.

In the Harry Potter books, pumpkin juice is presented as a common beverage in the wizarding world, much like orange juice or apple juice in the Muggle world. It’s served in a variety of settings throughout the series, like at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft. It’s a staple at the Great Hall feasts (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). Harry, Ron, and Hermione are often seen drinking it during meals or on the Hogwarts Express.

This favorite fall drink only needs a handful of ingredients and is ready in 5 minutes! We prefer to serve it chilled, but it makes a delicious warmed drink similar to a cider.

Why we think you’ll love it:

  • Pumpkin flavor. This is especially delicious in the fall with all of your favorite pumpkin drinks and treats!
  • Great for a themed party. Bring the wizarding world of Harry Potter to your party with this juice.
  • Ready in 5 minutes! Prep this drink in no time with only a handful of ingredients. Make this ahead of time and serve it chilled or heated!

Pumpkin Juice Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh apple cider – You can also use apple juice, but you may want to increase the brown sugar and spices.
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree – Use canned puree, not pie filling. You can also use Homemade Pumpkin Puree.
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar – We use light brown sugar, but dark brown sugar can also be used, or try using 2 teaspoons maple syrup or honey.
  • ยฝ teaspoon cinnamon – or use 1 teaspoon Pumpkin Pie Spice blend and omit the cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg
  • ยผ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ยผ teaspoon nutmeg
  • optional – Serve in a mug with a cinnamon stick.

How to Make Pumpkin Juice

  1. COMBINE. Add all ingredients to a medium pot and bring to a simmer. Simmer 10 minutes. Stir occasionally.
    • Serve warm, or refrigerate until cold and serve over ice.
  • Pumpkin. Double-check the can of pumpkin to ensure it’s not pumpkin pie filling, which already contains sugar and spices.
  • Simmer. Even though it’s served chilled, it needs to be gently simmered for the spices to infuse, but keep in mind that boiling can cause the spices to become bitter.
  • HP!! We love Harry Potter! In the books and at Harry Potter World at Universal Studios, it’s served chilled (our favorite), but it also tastes delicious as a warm, flavorful cider.
  • Spices. Replace the cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg with 1 teaspoon of pumpkin spice blend, which also includes cloves.
